Any suggestions? I have a surf student with some severe skin issues and sensitivity to various fragrances as well.
There was a great thread on the topic several years ago, want to see how, if , things have advanced. One that was was mentioned was matunas which looks interesting, except for the fragrances, which are ones she is allergic too. The girl's mother is a do it yourselfer type, so she's gonna try to make some as well. ------------------------- spindrift |

This is a link for great deck pads. I have some kneeboards with these pads and they grip pretty good without wax..

i've never liked deck pads. they first showed on sailboards in the late 80s. To me they were just in the way, more of a trip hazard than anything.
Not to mention silly expensive. Other than wax i'm working on a latex/urethane based medium then add granulated soft rubbery non skid to it. Custom colors, easy to apply in any design. Or soft non abrasive grip tapes that are not so thick and in the way like the pads Now: any suggestions on hypoallergenic wax? Got all kinds of good input about this several years ago. ------------------------- spindrift Edited: 08/21/2019 at 01:13 PM by spindrift |

Well, there's always the Gulfwax, Vaseline and a crayon approach. It works. Although neither of these name brands are, both the wax and petroleum jelly are available as USP products. I guess you could leave the crayon out...

Rashguard and lengthy boardshorts.

Goofyfoot George recommends these things: Surfco Hawaii Honeycomb Wax Mat. My buddy uses them, full disclosure, in combo with wax. Here's his review. These things can be purchased locally.

First batch of beeswax/coconut oil wax actually turned out pretty decent! Certainly perfectly adequate for cool water use, and no different than the average gummy wax.
Slight mix adjustments, may add paraffin or carnauba wax and we should have something fairly decent. Some of the chemical crap in some brands are nasty How many lbs of surf wax goes in the ocean per year? Oh yeah: the young lady got a reaction from the trac pads too.... ------------------------- spindrift |

I never go in the water without a long sleeve lycra top for sun protection. I thought I saw girl or two in the Bali surf videos wearing full lycra, don't think it was a wetsuit. Maybe wrong though. A quick search: Surf Leggings

Post if you work out the formula. I have a big chunk of bees wax I need to do something with. ------------------------- I was right. |

There are a fair number of lycra warm water full suits, like for snorkeler/divers in stinging jellyfish environments.
And sun protection. When I researched this on surfing forum before, lots of discussion about the toxic properties of the wax and sunscreens. And how to improve them. Now: meh....lycra suits and deck pads. Some of those leggings are cool though. My legs get fried on my kayak trips. Man sized with a drawstring would actually be useful! Things have changed...... ------------------------- spindrift Edited: 08/22/2019 at 02:37 PM by spindrift |
