Learned from some of the best,of course Al Merrick had a big influence, but other very notable San Diego Shapers also gave their hard earned knowage to Rob. He is more then some guy pushing buttons on the computer. He has learned and earned respect. pays tribute to the past while working to move forward.
He seems to be focused on Fish. It's a good fit for him. His latest The Seaside pays homage to the reef at Seaside. A local break with a long history.
That board looks like a winner. I'm not really into imported boards lots of excellent Board Builders out there.
There was an old trailer park there. On big swells with a high tide the place flooded. All dirt roads with big nasty potholes. The peak is big and fat. Made for a really fun drop. Lefts were usally better then the right. Seaside had it's crew like Cardiff reef had it's crew and Swamies had it's crew. Every time I think about North San Diego County in the 1970s I know that we had it so good.

Awesome feed back on this Artz, thanks, I graduated from MI HS in 78 and was living in San Diego 3 days later in Encinitas and working at a Jack N the Box grave yard shift and hanging out with the Swamies crew.... not part of it but really really cool peeps, I sooo miss those days... Sea Cliff county Park (don't know if it's still named that) is where I'd park and surf then work my way over to Swamies

That swamis wave looks like a perfected wave machine just cranked out great makable waves where you could rip the top off. That is, if the locals let you.

Funny how the Surf Expo has its shape-off competition to replicate a classic board... I wonder when they're gonna have one of the West Coast "masters" replicate one of the Brevard County's classics?
