May be an odd question but hoping someone that works out there can help me out. I commute from Melbourne and want to take my board with me so I can surf in the morning or on my way home but don't want to leave it in a hot truck bed all day. I also don't want to bring it in the office which would be a huge distraction. Are there any storage facilities that someone has used or know of a place that would accommodate storing it? Thanks! Slide it under your truck and leave a note on the windshield for the Security Forces if they have any questions and to remind you to get it before you drive off. I would not think anyone would F with it.....
I had one behind the old MIS building in the Titan area melting off the wax and the SF guys took it thinking someone had paddled into the ITL area. I retrieved it just before they were going to destroy it thinking it could have some explosives inside. I was interviewed for an hour or two before they accepted my story. |

I would leave it in your car parked under a tree, or find somewhere in the office- could be a good conversation piece!

Window deflectors let you leave your windows open about an inch without worrying about rain or your board baking, especially combined with dark tint. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. Not a lot of trees around makes shade difficult. I like under the truck, may give that a try. |

Putting your board in a good reflective bag and cracking open your windows reduces the heat on the board by 10-15 degrees. It actually stays cooler in a bag on your racks- but then you have to worry about theft.

Yes, I have a tonneau cover. The beds like an oven when it's sunny out. |

gotcha... I was wondering about that. When I had to commute to an office job, the few times I'd bring my board was usually in the winter (to surf the Poles) so I'd gamble on leaving it in my truck (tinted windows, cover windshield, and leave windows cracked).... heat of summer rarely justifies bringing a board (sans the rare tropical swell).... I did bring it into the office before, but usually wasnt worth the inane comments / "conversation" it would create..... unless the waves were firing But if the stick was epoxy I wouldnt ever leave it in there In regards to the racks comment.... they do make locking rack straps these days (with cable inside the nylon webbing so they cant be cut with a knife)
A few years back I taught a late afternoon / evening college class one fall semester (during an active hurricane season). I got some interesting looks pulling into a staff parking space then sticking a shortboard in the front seat of my truck |

Tonneau will work, just need to leave it cracked open a couple of inches and use a good board bag. If you're handy, you can even set up a lock to hold it open and keep your boards from disappearing.

I've had 2 dreams (each with a solution!) about this.... One time I ended up talkin to the guy at the gas station and he let me store it standing up -in the corner of the garage. The next time the nice gal at the Jiffy Store let me keep it in the walk-in cooler. Maybe try one of those? Offer them a few bucks. YMMV, |
