Is it just me or does it seem that California always has some kind of wave in the summer?

Yes to us they always have waves.

The VANS contest is going to be interesting, besides the great surfing in normalish waves:

  1. Women's pro with a pretty good race there
  2. Mens 10,000 point QS Geiselamn ranked well in the race but has been hit and miss in QS events. Hopefully great in this one!   http://www.worldsurfleague.com/posts/215472/evan-geiselmans-knocking
  3. Caroline Marks is in the Juniors she just made it to the quarters of the last QS losing to face Carissa Moore (?!?)
  4. Lots of great surfing in normalish waves.

I was going to say that Geiselman was robbed, but the judges pulled their heads from their butt at the end... Flores was way over scored, Dunphy beat Flores.

Crud Dunphy would be great on tour as well.  Contest stacked.

There are always waves here. Been in San Diego for 2 months and there hasnt been an unrideable day yet. There are plenty of junky mushy days, but always something to surf or a better spot to find stand out waves that are often 2-3x the size of the surrounding areas.

Yep, always something to ride and as a bonus, any wind on it and the local guys would scatter leaving me in the water. I about surfed myself to death one choppy day at Uppers.

This is a "hoo humm" day from the last time I was there, only a few people out because it really wasn't very "good"! (just north of Cardiff Reef).

East Coasters who have any aspiration of being a pro contest surfer pretty much better move to SoCal.

Caroline said it best during an interview, she loves being able to surf in California and is very grateful to her family for relocating there.

Replace turf grass with native plants that don't need irrigation and synthetic fertilizers or chemicals that can go into our waterways and ocean

the surf was ummm kinda boring but the Skate and BMX pool contest was insane!!! As for moving out there , no brainer, industry is there, waves are there , pratice, practice, pratice (and expossure)...what are you gonna practice on here in Florida? , maybe get a good at hopping through the flat spots and surfing waist high wind chop?  The wavepool aspect may level the pratice problem East Coaster's have but that is many years away...
