Today, the World Surf League (WSL) Big Wave Tour (BWT) is placing the Puerto Escondido Challenge in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, on Yellow Alert with a projected 30-foot-plus swell heading toward the region. Event organizers will monitor conditions closely and declare a Green Alert 72 hours prior to the start of the event, conditions permitting.

El Niño is over. Conditions are neutral now with La Niña likely to follow later this year.

El Nino may have ended in May, but the effects on weather patterns and the surf endure... everything about this contest is HEAVY and the only towing is to get out in 30+ foot beach break with no channel YEWWWWW!

Amazing.

William Finnegan's memoir, "Barbarian Days" had a page or so about big wave surfers. They're in a different category.

That was so heavy. I can't imagine the amount of water moving around or the amount dumping on their heads.
