Who cares about the buoys? There are 40 photos of the waves posted on here every hour...using the buoys to decide whether or not to go surf is obsolete. Buoys schmouys. Plus I agree with Zeus BS.

If they do this -- and I SURE hope they do NOT -- and the 1 mile buoy goes down (like it just did), it would be the 1980's all over again. You remember, back when gas was 90 cents a gallon? I've learned to understand what weather systems do and have gotten really good at understanding what buoy data means for diffferent breaks, but that's it. If this happens I'd definitely need to kick it up to forecasting level because I can't go through all that scouting and getting lucky some times thing again. And I only live 12 minutes from the waterline. That would just suck.

Brother, when you get a minute, could I get a list of the words that trigger these fits?

Hey. Where are we going? (And what are we doing in a hand-basket?)

Isn't the port becoming the largest in Florida? Just to much traffic, those are needed! Wait til the first storm...

Latest info:

Sounds like the 20 miler is moving to the Gulf, but 120 might be saved by SpaceX.

Announcement coming from NDBC that the buoys will be going away no earlier than Spring 2016. Unless they get funding.

Here is a response from the NDBC to an email I sent: Bill, No, the buoys are not being relocated to the Gulf of Mexico. An official notice on the status of the stations is being drafted, and once finalized, it will be published on our site. Elon Musk just tweeted that he bought the buoys as part of a larger acquisition of NOAA. His intention is to use the agency to control the weather.

why don't you try understanding what causes the buoys for their readings , lmao is right , if you have to rely on a buoy to tell you when there is gonna be surf , you shouldn't be surfing. ...........kinda like the guy who rides a long board and says its closing out , when its firing. isgust;

The 120 went walkabout for awhile and they took the time and the money to replace it.

I doubt they would have taken the effort if the thing was slated to be moved.

Not really. The 120 is critical in timing when the swell will arrive at the beach and the size that actually will make it to us.

If you get a kick out of running calculations based on fetch, wind speed estimates, and duration from looking at nothing but satellite pictures ....more FKing power to you, but don't be a douche about it.

Elon Musk is merely outfitting them with lithium ion powered solar panels and motion generators to become completely self sufficient.

sorry , not going to get into a pissing match about surfing . as for as getting my kicks , calculations, fetch , wind speed estimates , duration , fking and douche. hey Wilbur , just for kicks , based my calculations , that fetch and wind speed estimates , show a wave duration that looks like waves for the weekend. or johnny see that low sitting out there , looks like a little groundswell coming , too bad the tides aren't going to be right and the wind is going to be huffing. I guess just pack a few boards you never know. i kid , i kid there is an old saying when the leaves start to turn over , there is a good chance its going to rain ! no i am not a douche , maybe just and old dude who still enjoys surfing in its purest form.
