.................My opinion is 1st soda now boogies. NSR kind of. Discuss. (story is on surfline) PS. One comment said NY lifegaurds have no fins and some can barely swim to save anyone, from a former NY lifegaurd, said they need an HB or Ausie style lifeguard training program at NY City beaches.

Beach lifeguards up there are summer only and mostly high school kids since they get very low pay. It used to be mostly college kids and older and the ones I worked with were very competent ocean swimmers.

Pretty easy rescue to get a boogie boarder, especially if you use the belt and line to get pulled back in which I believe most still do-at least in NJ.

The New York Times' search and archive functions have been upgraded, so it's become real easy to look for old stories.  It looks like New Yorkers have been beach enthusiasts since the Times started publishing, and lifeguarding seems to go back almost to the Civil War era.  It's easy to find accounts of rescues; relatively few drownings.

Looks like some of the state and local beaches on Long Island still have very competent lifeguard programs.

This is pretty serious. All surfers should band together, raise awareness, and do the Ice boogie challenge!

Say it aint so!  If there wasn't enough reason already to move to the dirty souht, now even more NY'rs have reason to move to Floreeduh to boogie.  Aloha MF'ers!  See you in the lineup

but who cares at this point?
ok, so body boarding comes back
how does this hurt us as surfers?

not one bit.....
i see someone saying, 'dick dragging speed bumps'

ok, that's cool.... and funny if you ask me.
but then you have to think, they are doing the same
things as us but they aren't on their feet.

and then where they are treated like doo doo, like most
of them are, people wonder why there is always hostility

hey, i hope that if you see something that looks like a
manatee but has a lot of hair, you don't run it over

i don't like getting hit by surfboards

Unless it's radically changed in the past 15 years you're way off...... they used to get paid WAAAY more than lifeguards here. I had friends that made bank.

Either way, less boogies =
