Sorry you think that.  The Torah shows the beauty of creation, that God would dwell with man in paradise He created.  He gaves us free will or else it wouldn't be real love or a real relationship.  Despite man's failure, choosing not to listen to God, constant selfishness, etc. God continually provides, shows mercy, and helps.  That's pretty great if you ask me.  Then Jesus comes to fulfill the law that no one could ever keep.  That's the whole reason there is a law, to show man there's no self-effort involved because it's impossible to keep 613 laws (of which the 10 are a part of).  And so Jesus comes to show us what God is really like.  His sacrifice was all about showing us, mankind, the peace that God always had towards us.  You're right, none of knew anything, so Jesus became like us to help us undersand and know the Father.  Greater loves has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for His friends.  It is simple, Jesus demonstrated God's love for us.

The old testament God wanted to be feared and obeyed. That God demanded sacrifice, worship, and obedience and repayed those exercising the very free will he gave them with death and destruction.

Isn't that the same God that Jesus supposedly was demonstrating the love of? Is God bipolar?

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I don't see the OT/NT inconsistency.

In my mind, the death of those children on the other side of the world is an indication of our lack of love...not God's. He promised to any nation that would live in His rightness that things like starvation would be absent from their midst. You did not save those children, but you could have. The rulers of that foreign nation did not save those children, but they could have.

In the OT, God rails against those who claim to be good yet do nothing to relieve the burden of the oppressed:

Isaiah 58:6-7
"Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?"

If we would all live like that, there would be no starvation in this world. Is God to be blamed as unloving because he didn't force you and me to love our neighbor as ourself and solve the problem the way it is supposed to be solved?

That literally describes 99.999% of the people that claim to follow your God.

 

Thats a hell of a system. Are they destined to go to Hell, or if they move will that save them?
