Never had personal experience but my neighbor had his well start failing and put in a new well. This was for potable water ... Sealing the old one off was a problem - I seem to remember that theere was corrosion involved somewhere down there.. It spewed water into the road for about a week before they got it sealed. Pretty sure it was not a DIY - he's 80+... Prob best to spring some $ for a pro..
