I would like to buy a couple Pritchardia Thurstonii.

Anyone know where I can find one without driving to Miami?

Not having luck finding them even as far South as Loxahatchee.

Something like that would be hard to find. what about a seedling from floribunda?

Central Floridave, thank you for the suggestion. Funny enough, I just ordered some palms from them a couple months back, but they are not currently offering Thurstonii. I have had no problem finding Pacifica, but my understanding is that Pacifica is even more cold sensitive than Thurstonii.

Thurstonii is v/tender as well. Much better off with Pritchardias native to Hawaii, way more cold hardy.

I've got a couple Prichardia in my yard. But, not thriving. They are about 15 years old and growing under oak shade. The tallest is about 4 feet tall. IT was labeled Pritchardia Blue Hellibrandii. I probably got the spelling wrong and I think since they are called something else. from floribunda. I think I got some from coconuts a decade or two earlier but they never made it. Cold.

Dave, Thank you for the insight. I was reading an old thread on Palmtalk where you posted your experience with these on these in Merrit Island.

Maybe I am being an idiot, but I would love to try at least one thurstonii in my yard in a protected spot on the South side (I don't care for the look of most of the other varieties of Pritchardias nearly as much, except Pacifica). I am in a decent microclimate being only half a block from the river in Indialantic and having large trees bordering my yard from the Northwest to the Northeast. I have lived in my current home since 08 and during the bad winter of 2009/2010 I only had one very slight frost in open areas and all my palms came through it although they had some leaf burn. Based on your input, in the long-term, the Thurstonii will likely die, but maybe there is hope to have it grow for 5-10 years until our next really cold winter.

The problem w/thurstonii, and Pritchardia is the leaves cold spot terribly even in the fifties, and yellow out. So they would look like crap every winter.

Coconuts, than you for your input.

Have you ever grown or do you have any pritchardia beccariana for sale?

This one appears similar in appearence to the two I like and from what I have read, much more cold tolerant.
