Hey Mangophiles- My fruit (Tommy Atkins - I think) seems a little more stringier than usual this year.
Have you experienced a change like this as your tree grows older? Its about 22 years in the ground. I keep our tree pruned back to under 15 feet - and thin it out as well. Or is it my imagination? Perhaps the little devil on my shoulder is telling me to go ahead and get that Alfonse .....LOL |

I just bought a 'sweet tart' variety. I tasted the 'tebow' variety last week and it completely blew me away in taste and zero fiber.
Remind me why you are growing tommy atkins? |

Thanks Dave-
It was with the property when we bought our home.... I THINK it is Tommy Atkins..... I've been told its a Keitt as well... I've never really confirmed for sure- It has been a spectacular fruiting tree for us though- I have kept it pruned back (following Fairchild's guidance)to about 15 ft and in control. Trunk ( at 2 ft from grade) is about 18" diameter It has produced some outstanding tasting fruit - yes, some fiber, but this year it seems a little more. We don't have a lot of room to plant another mango- most open space has been taken by palms...... what to do....... !!!! |

Maybe don't fertilize or water the tree. See if that has an effect on it.

As we age, we need more fiber. Your tree is trying to help. It's a good tree.
