Piped in gas is the ideal solution. Since I started using non ethanol gas, I've had no small engine fuel related problems. I use it in everything except my truck. However, the truck does burn what I don't use during hurricane season. Ours is 89 octane and right now is 2.60 a gallon. I have seen it as much as one dollar more then regular. I have kept treated with stabilizer it for two years and it was still good. Now I just keep it untreated a year. On a side note, I have looked into tapping into my truck's fuel system to get to the twenty gallons in there. I find there is no easy way.

I'm going with Ol' trusty

This and a window shaker and I think I'm good to go. Now I need to find decent gas tanks.

I have used my old Suburban as my strategic petroleum reserve. Forty gallon tank and a hand pump you can get at the auto parts store. Ya, it's kind of a pain, but sometimes better than looking for gas. For propane, my eu2200 runs the AC in the camper, 6K btu, for about two overnights on a 20lb grill bottle, eco mode. Carry two bottles and don't really know how much the stove/fridge use so this is an inexact measurement at best. I'd expect the compressor would never shut down on a window shaker in a house, so it would use a good bit more for hurricane type use. Note that the conversion to propane does not exclude using gas, makes your unit a dual fueler.

My truck is a 2016 Tacoma. I have tried getting a 1/4 inch hard plastic tube past the rollover valve in the top of the tank, but all I did was have a hard time getting the tube unstuck. I read that I can get gas from the fuel rail by disconnecting it and turning the key to on and catching the gas that pumps out of the fuel rail. I didn't try it.

Anyone have experience with a duel-fuel generator?

I converted my little Honda eu2200 to dual fuel, propane/gasoline. Simple and works great. Have not had much opportunity to use it, just on the camping trailer. Hope I don't need to.

I got curious about run time of gas vs propane so did a quick back of the envelope calc. Using standard size containers, a 20lb grill bottle of propane and a 5 gal gas can, the gas can contains about 1/3 more energy than the bottle. If you know how long your gen runs under the conditions you're using it, you'll get about 1/3 less time off the bottle compared to the can, all thing being equal. But you won't need to get up and fill the tank as often...

Thanks.

According to the specs on that big-ass generator pictured above ....

.... "Runs for up to 11 hours on a 10.5 gal. fuel tank with built-in fuel gauge;
up to 6 hours on a 20 lb. propane tank"

^Interesting, that suggests that 5 gal of gas is about equal to 20 lbs of propane. Optimism? I've got no real world experience to back up either but hope that the above is more accurate than my calc.
