Having the cemetery nearby isn't so bad given my research agenda up here. Since I'm currently supervising a project at a "lost" cemetery in Orange County, I'm hoping this one may provide a good comparative sample given it is also historic (founded 1886), culturally similar and hopefully they have good records on hand given it is pretty well maintained.

But I need to replace my back shower window with frosted glass. For the life of me, I can't figure out why they have a clear window pane in?? When I was showering Sunday, I looked out and there was a black funeral going on!

It's very close to my house (just on the other side of the wire fence). Kinda weird and creepy but also kinda cool. Some people up here suggested having some spooky Fall time parties out back.

Well, that's exactly what I meant! Just try to keep your digging tendencies under control, and don't go blaming it on the dog!

With October weather in G'ville, that looks like an awesome place for a Halloween party. My kids might want to pitch a tent and camp out there one night too, as long as it's on your side of the fence, and you've replaced that damn clear bathroom window!

Edit: Oh yeah, to keep this thread on topic (partying in Gainesville)...

No, no digging in cemeteries. Our research methods are mostly unobstrusive & nondestructive and just include filling out forms, taking photographs, drawings and measurements and examining geneological and funerary tax records, etc. We work closely under the church and community groups in charge of the sites.

But it could get ackward when I start landscaping the back yard. Guess I should stay away from the fence line!

you said it!

Could wind up being a 1 vs. 2 or 3 matchup if both teams can get through the early part of their schedule....

OSU or USC will have a loss by then

And after the university was ranked #1 party school, this comes out:

UF looking to tackle excessive drinking

A week after being named the nation's top party school, the University of Florida is breaking up the party.

UF is proposing a ban on drinking games and kegs in a sweeping rewrite of its student conduct code released Monday. UF officials said those parts of the rules are mainly meant for activities on campus and in university facilities including fraternity and sorority houses.

The regulations would be extended to students living off campus only in an extreme situation where drinking led to injuries or property destruction, said Patricia Telles-Irvin, vice president for student affairs.

the decisions to begin to curb what they call excessive drinking have been in place ever since the new UF prez arrived.

all they needed was an excuse to make it happen, and they got it.

next items under fire - happy hours and drink specials.

the UF party is almost over. ironic, considering how prevalent it was in the 70's,
80's and 90's, butt it was only a matter of time.

What's with the trash service up here? In the "O.C." they picked up twice a week and whatever was on the curb would be taken as long as it was bundled or in cans. Here I get one standard can and anything in excess I have to buy these expensive yellow bags from the grocery store to put the stuff in for pick up. Then I have to schedule specifically for bulk pick up. And they tell me all my cardboard boxes have to fit into the one recycling bin I get or it won't be picked up. I guess it is a more efficient form of waste pick-up, especially given all the party debris left over every morning. I'm just ready to get rid of all this moving junk!

many things UP here in the AC are not like they are in the rest of the world
or other florida counties.

jorts and trash pickup are only 2 of them.

if u want the trash gone you have to take it to a dumpster from
another apartment building yourself. thats just how it's done.
or wait. and call, and wait. and call. and wait. try that too
if u have a few days to spare.

the good news is
at the end of each semester u can furnish several houses by
pickin up other folks leftover furniture and appliances from the same curbs.
and alot of it is "like new, almost never used". go figure.

in the meatime, there are other new diversions you can take advantage of: TRY IT!

"....you can do whatever you want in Gville and follow it up by screaming GO GATORS!!!' and its okay, you can actually punch a baby and then do the CHOMP to its mother and she will hi-five you!!"

Well the good news is my medical & auto insurance costs decreased by 1/3 after moving from Orlando! One of the agents was pretty blount when she said I was less likely to injured or get my car stolen up here.

But gas is about 0.10 more per gallon :/.

Bernie Machen has been trying to kill the party since he arrived in gainesville (curbing drink specials, "no one likes a sloppy gator" campaign)...in his tenure UF ascended to #1 party school. Nice work BMach....

I dont' think the #1 ranking had much to do with the kids playing drinking games in the dorms...
