DeSantis hires illegals to clear lygodium from SFWMD property. I have seen the crews firsthand. The chief speaks English, but that's about it. The problem with simplistic views like those of sniper and the rest of MAGA is their lack of understanding details. First off, the US makes billions from over-the-border commerce; if you close the border, you lose that cash. Second, "illegals" don't just come from the Southern border, million have overstayed their visas. They came in legally and never left. Thirdly, they aren't all brown people... they come from all walks of life and represent every color available. ------------------------- I was right. Edited: 06/21/2024 at 05:42 AM by Cole |

That was some shitty looking work hacking their way through the most overgrown parts of pool C with machetes and back packs of herbicide. The massively overloaded pontoon boat would drop them off and then drive around the bend and wait for them to emerge from the morass. It looked brutal.

Make no mistake. GOP leaders don't want to stop immigrant labor. They just want to keep it underground and cheap and exploitably illegal.

Last note. I just spent a week in Mexico. The number of Buckees and Bass Pro Shops hats was interesting. These guys hustle. When things are slow on the island they go north and do construction or work in kitchens . I talked to a mate on the dive boat that had on a Pirates Cove shirt. Rich guys fly him north to crew in billfish tournaments but his home is the island. The shuttle driver from the airport lived in Denver for 10 years but moved back home to take care of his aging parents. Many of the locals we talked to work part of the year in the US. Sniper wants us to think that stopping that flow of labor by locking down the border will keep European mobsters out.

I've seen this before, where they cite arrests for the "crime" of immigration to say immigrants commit crime at higher rates.
When violent crime rates are analyzed, immigrants, legal and illegal are convicted at lower rates than US citizens. http://www.cato.org/blog/illeg...ht-illegal-immigrant# Cato claims to be libertarian think tank. |

Wiki
Research in the United States tends to suggest that immigration either has no impact on the crime rate or even that immigrants are less prone to crime.[1][2][3] A meta-analysis of 51 studies from 1994 - 2014 on the relationship between immigration and crime in the United States found that, overall, the immigration-crime association is negative, but the relationship is very weak and there is significant variation in findings across studies.[4] This is in line with a 2009 review of high-quality studies conducted in the United States that also found a negative relationship.[5] The first source cited [1]: Effects of Immigrant Legalization on Crime: The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act Stanford Law and Economics Olin Working Paper No. 412 46 Pages Posted: 4 May 2011 Last revised: 1 Aug 2014 Scott R. Baker Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management, Department of Finance; National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) Date Written: July 28, 2014 Abstract I examine the effects that the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), which legalized almost 3 million immigrants, had on crime in the United States. I exploit the IRCA's quasi-random timing as well as geographic variation in the intensity of treatment to isolate causal impacts. I find decreases in crime of 2%-6%, primarily due to decline in property crimes, equivalent to 80,000-240,000 fewer violent and property crimes committed each year due to legalization. I calibrate a labor market model of crime, finding that much of the drop in crime can be explained by greater labor market opportunities among applicants. Keywords: Immigration, Crime, Policy, Amnesty, Legalization, Legal Status Here's the 2nd: Americans have long believed that immigrants are more likely than natives to commit crimes and that rising immigration leads to rising crime (Kubrin, 2014; Gallagher, 2014; Martinez and Lee, 2000). This belief is remarkably resilient to the contrary evidence that immigrants are in fact much less likely than natives to commit crimes. These contemporary beliefs have strong historical roots. Common stereotypes of immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries were that immigrants were much more likely to be criminals than the native-born. The criminal stereotype applied to a number of different ethnic groups. The term "paddy wagon," slang for a police van to transport prisoners, began as an ethnic slur against the "criminal" Irish in the mid-19th century. 3rd, don't steal the Magagaggers boogie man.
This narrative is one of many that keeps them in fear, and keeps their low informed followers voting for them. I bet most think that just being in this country without documentation is a crime, it isn't. Also, federal immigration crimes are under the immigration courts which are under the DHS and are civil courts, not criminal courts. Our immigration laws are a mess and really need to be cleaned up and unified with Comprehensive Immigration Reform...but as mentioned before, the GOP does not want that as it would take away fun talking points for them, and cheap labor for the businesses. Even GW Bush realized the immigration system was messed up and tried to push a CIR package but his own party, the GOP, shot him down and would not support mainly because of the two reasons already mentioned. Sad. https://georgewbush-whitehouse...tives/immigration.html ------------------------- If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD WAS MUSIC - KV Edited: 06/21/2024 at 07:23 AM by Bamboo |

I flipped through OAN, Newsmax, and Fox last night.
All three hyper focused on the border "crisis." If there's any crisis in this country it's disinformation and corruption. |

You can't say that because YOU DON'T KNOW WHO IS HERE. Look, I've said here multiple times that we need a way for the people to work here via work visas but we can't have people just walking in and out of our country. We can't have young girls having to pay with their bodies to get here. Try committing a violent crime here and trying to immigrate to ANY country around the world and let me know how that works out for you. You won't get in. Why? Because those countries aren't complete fucking idiots. You guys are advocating for taking the front doors off your own houses and hoping for the best. You can see with your own eyes that ISIS terrorists are coming across the border and you are so ideologically captured that you are good with it. You can see that we have violent criminals entering the country doing harm to our citizens but as long as they aren't in your family, fuck'em. ------------------------- "The government who robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul," - George Bernard Shaw “End of quote. Most people never see an undocumented person and yet they are terrified of them. I find that odd. As for me, I see them all the time and they are working for some of the largest agribusinesses in the state. Perhaps that is a place to start if you want to remove them. It will have consequences monetarily, but if they can't work, they won't come. This is a solid red state and they are doing nothing to halt the flow, if they were, they would ban them from employment. Biden worked with Republicans to get a border bill passed, it was shelved by Republicans at Trump's behest. Why are you yelling at Democrats? ------------------------- I was right. If only GW Bush's Comprehensive Immigration Reform proposal wasn't shot down by the GOP special interests...
It addressed documenting the undocumented. i.e. Comprehensive Immigration Reform Must Account For The Millions Of Immigrants Already In The Country Illegally. Illegal immigration causes serious problems, putting pressure on public schools and hospitals and straining State and local budgets. People who have worked hard, supported their families, avoided crime, led responsible lives, and become a part of American life should be called in out of the shadows and under the rule of American law. If the GOP resurrected GW's proposal, and kept that damn Nazi Stephen Miller from shitting his racist proposals into it, that could be a winning strategy for the GOP...except for the superpac and corporate donors....they would have a hard time with it. BTW, I went to a west coast school and there were a bunch of undocumented Canadians going there. Because they had no trouble blending in with wonder bread Americans they never got questioned or hassled about their status. ------------------------- If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD WAS MUSIC - KV |

Yeah, they were a trip and they were very polite and had a strong sense of right and wrong.
Eh, and hoser were their favorite words. Very good snow skiiers, serious engineering students, and yet they could party hard. The girl Canadians could drink most others, including Aussies, under the table. Fun times and happy I had the chance to get to know them. After college they went back up to BC, I know one was (maybe still is??) an engineer for the lift systems at a ski resort in BC. ------------------------- If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD WAS MUSIC - KV |

Our country is filled with soft, privileged, entitled dipshits who have had things too good for too long. You lack the intellect to see danger at your doorstep and the empathy to see it outside the four walls of your own house. They say that evil tends to push where there is mush. You boys are as doughy as it gets. In the next 6 months, we will see if the rest of the country is as soft as you are.
Again, do you think every country around the world is just mean for not allowing people with violent criminal backgrounds from entering their country? Or do you think that we are just fucking idiots? Those ISIS fighters that were arrested here last week weren't here to pick watermelons. ------------------------- "The government who robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul," - George Bernard Shaw “End of quote.
