Because those GOP House members had what they believed were really good, despite never sharing those reasons with Congress.
>>GOP Reps. Scott Perry (Pa.), Jim Jordan (Ohio) and Andy Biggs (Ariz.) all blew off subpoenas in May 2022 from the bipartisan House select committee investigating the riot at the U.S. Capitol. The panel had previously asked them to appear voluntarily to answer questions about Donald Trump's attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss, which culminated in his supporters' attack on Congress as both houses met to certify the Electoral College results that day. They all declined.

They gave a variety of nonsensical reasons for ignoring their subpoenas at the time. Jordan said his had no "legitimate legislative purpose" and broke House rules. Biggs said his didn't count because it was part of a "baseless witch hunt." Perry, whose phone records were seized by the FBI as part of a probe into his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, similarly defied his subpoena because he said it was part of "a political witch hunt."

They seemed to forget all about this on Wednesday when they voted to rebuke Garland - who, unlike them, took meaningful steps to comply with the GOP's requests.

Republicans had demanded Garland hand over all materials related to President Joe Biden's October 2023 interview with former special counsel Robert Hur, about the investigation of Biden's past mishandling of classified information.

The Justice Department made a transcript of the full interview public and provided some documents, but Republicans said they also wanted the audio recording of the interview to ensure its accuracy. The Justice Department declined, warning of the precedent it would set for the department being required to provide audio recordings in future investigations.<<

The modern GOP is a joke. Their entire narrative is a contradiction.

Gym Jordan said that his refusal was totally different because he had what he thought was a really good reason. He doesn't think Garland's reason is, in his opinion, really good.

So this went nowhere. It was never going to go anywhere. More bs from the party that would rather tilt at windmills than govern. Just look at the shit the GOP focuses on instead of what their constituents need or would benefit from.

If the GOP maintains their slim majority, they will probably put forth bills to kill the IRS, make all federal employees at will, rename an airport or a highway for Trump, raise the Social Security to 75, make child labor laws toothless, kill the consumer protection bureau, promote loans for private for profit colleges, block any minimum wage increase, ban unions, prosecute marijuana, reinstate the federal sentencing guidelines with mandatory minimums, contract with private prisons, ban abortion, prosecute women who travel for abortions, more and better tax breaks to the rich, reducing the capital gains tax, allowing gerrymandering as a legislative function, repealing the voting rights act, legalizing machine guns proper, allowing silencers without an FFL, requiring voters to show a federal ID, and allowing state felonies to be removed to federal court where the President can then pardon himself. I am sure I missed a few things but please, feel free to add....

Open more wetlands to construction.
Reduce renewable energy.
Add more potholes to our roads - no interest in infrastructure.
Remove the immigrant workforce causing produce and goods to skyrocket.
Shut down immigration and damage the economy.
Increase subsidies to Big Oil.
Do away with Obamacare and replace it with nothing.
Increase taxes on Joe and Jill Worker - actually, that's already happening.
Do away with the Endangered Species act.
Give Ukraine to Russia.
Tighten relationships with dictators.
Reduce relationships with allies.

Somewhere Rick Scott just gave the creepiest closed eye smirk as he just nutted in his pants.
