DeSantis visits Daytona Buc-ee's to announce proposal to waive Florida's gas tax
Clayton Park, The Daytona Beach News-Journal Mon, November 22, 2021, 3:23 PM DAYTONA BEACH - Gov. Ron DeSantis visited Florida's largest gas station on Monday morning to announce a proposal to temporarily waive the state's gasoline tax next year to offset soaring fuel pump prices. The waiver, pending approval by the state Legislature during the annual session that begins Jan. 11, could take effect in early 2022. "What we're going to be proposing in the next legislative session is over a billion dollars in gas tax relief for Florida families," said DeSantis at a press conference held at the massive 104-pump Buc-ee's gas station in Daytona Beach. "We're taking over 25 cents from Florida and we'll basically zero that out as long as we can." Thanks to federal COVID-19 stimulus funds, DeSantis said the state is "in great financial shape," with surpluses that should allow infrastructure projects to continue to be funded, at least for the near future. "I don't think we're going to miss a beat," he said. ------------------------- Dora Hates You |

A politician who is trying to help the people out. Don't see that from the dems. They want to raise gas taxes higher, of course.

Aren't they opening up the reserves to increase supply?

Worrying about the environment is all fine-and-dandy but, until there are plentiful, viable, alternatives, we will have to continue the use of "oil".
Again, China pollutes more than the rest of the world combined. And, that CO2 capture facility in Norway (?) is a "good start" but, but, but, it must operate for a full year in order to capture just 3 seconds worth of carbon emissions! A "win win" is far in the future. Move to higher ground. ------------------------- Dora Hates You Edited: 11/23/2021 at 03:34 PM by dingpatch |

Aren't they opening up the reserves to increase supply? That will be a blip - about three days worth of consumption. Dementia Joe's stupid environmental policies are the problem. As long as we are discouraging supply, prices will go higher. Yes, but if we cut exports then we can make a dent. We'll see... ------------------------- QOP = Terrorists FK = Gay |

That's not a beat Desantis will be missing, it's the tax revenues that fund FDOT. Republicans don't balance their budgets, they postpone to make someone else make those painful decisions and then they use that as a basis to get elected again. The gasoline tax cut will not pay for itself, it will not ease the burden on most drivers in any meaningful way and it's coming back for the same reason it's here now, we can't pay for roads with pandering.

Nationalize oil production, and produce what's needed at a reasonable price, or leave it to the so called "free market" and deal with the production-supply-price fluctuations that are inherent to that system.

Desantis said it might save $30 a month. It will go unnoticed and the state will become deeper in debt.

This may force an issue that's going to be more relevant as electric cars become more prominent. We need another way to fund that does not relate to gas.

Republican states will continue to claim low tax wins as the Federal government foots the bill for infrastructure repairs through Democratic legislation. ------------------------- I was right. |
