WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives voted Thursday to hold former Trump adviser Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress.

Bannon, who was White House chief strategist for the first few months of Donald Trump's presidency, refused to comply with subpoenas from the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob. The Select Committee voted unanimously Tuesday to hold Bannon in congressional contempt.

The full House voted 229-202. All Democrats voted in favor; most Republicans voted against.

House GOP leadership had urged members Wednesday to vote no, but nine Republicans voted to hold Bannon in contempt. That included Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, both of whom serve on the Jan. 6 committee.

What are they hiding?

Why has Trump instructed them to deny the subpoenas?

Why did Trump file a law suit to block Congress from getting any information?

Guilty.

What comes next?
Now that the referral has passed the House, it heads to the Justice Department, which will ultimately decide whether to bring charges that could result in jail time or fines.
Any individual who is found liable for contempt of Congress is then guilty of a crime that may result in a fine and between one and 12 months imprisonment. But this process is rarely invoked and rarely leads to jail time.
As severe as a criminal contempt referral sounds, the House's choice to use the Justice Department may be more of a warning than a solution. Holding a person in criminal contempt through a prosecution could take years, and historic criminal contempt cases have been derailed by appeals and acquittals.

They need to put the clamp down on these crooks. Seems like it will lead to a slap on the hand.

How do the rest of the Republicans justify their backing and support of the attempted coup at the capital?

The intellectual giants have filed suit. They have a guy who was not an advisor invoking executive privilege for the guy who is no longer the president about his organization of an insurrection he's trying to deny. Got it.

Could it be that the spineless louts are afraid of reprisal from Dear Leader Trump?

Trump lost handily and still pulls all the strings. I think this is great! lol
