>>Senate conservatives will filibuster any attempt to raise the debt ceiling that they can, closing off one of Democrats' pathways to avoiding a U.S. default later this fall. While the GOP has vowed it won't give Democrats the affirmative votes they need to raise the borrowing limit, the party could theoretically decline to filibuster a debt bill, allowing Democrats to increase the nation's credit cap with a simple majority vote in the Senate. But Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in an interview that he won't allow that to happen, echoing his party's growing insistence that default be avoided along party lines using the budget reconciliation process - a tactic Democratic leaders have thus far eschewed. "Democrats have the full ability to raise the debt ceiling as a part of reconciliation," Cruz said. "They want political cover." Democrats have said they want lifting the debt ceiling to be a bipartisan exercise, particularly since much of the current debt was racked up under Trump.<< ------------------------- "One of the reasons why propaganda tries to get you to hate government is because it's the one existing institution in which people can participate to some extent and constrain tyrannical unaccountable power." How do these useless twats get elected over and over? Trump clocked up $7.5 trillion in four years and they backed his every single move. Do they ever actually do anything or is their task in life nothing more than obstruction?
The debt ceiling increased two times under President Donald Trump, but the Trump administration also tinkered with the budget and the debt ceiling in other ways throughout its four years. When Trump was sworn into office in January 2017, the national debt stood at $19.9 trillion. By November 2020, the debt had increased to over $27 trillion. Under Trump the debt ceiling increased: by $1.7 trillion to $19.8 trillion (de facto) in March 2017, by $2.2 trillion to $22 trillion in March 2019. Trump suspended the debt ceiling in August 2019, through July 2021. At the time of the 2020 election, the national debt stood at over $27 trillion, the fastest rate of increase of the national debt of any modern president. ------------------------- I was right. In this age of computers when we can literally vote on every issue ourselves, every day if necessary, I really don't see the justification of having any "representatives", either in the 'house' or a dis-proportianate 'senate', since they never 'represent' 'we the people' , like they should, only their donors..
Put everything on a ballot and let the people decide.. Want to have things your way, then woo us, not some grifter.. Let us all vote, either simple majority, or 60% supermajority vote if it's in the constitution, ALL issues,, All the trigger issues; Guns, Abortion, Electorial College, weed legalization, prison reform, police reform, minimum wage, maximum wage, universal health care, Non-proportional representation is a major issue that needs to be corrected.. Don't want that? Choose dis-proportianate representation by dis-proportionate taxation (you want more say, like the Dakotas, then pay more taxes) etc - obviously this concept will never work since these places are the leeches of our society... Come again.. Vote to make it the "law of the land".. No need to let the house, senate or the supreme court get involved tipping the scales intepereting shit.. We need to put 'legalization' back on the ballot - constitutionally.. These dicks have been fiddle farting with it since we passed the diluted 'med' version...
