This is a concern to folks on Melbourne water (me). If you're on Cocoa water, it's primarily groundwater so pretty low concern. Melbourne however draws from Lake Washington which has had some blue green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms. The dumping of biosolids (treated sewer residual) in the basin has upped the phosphorus content and is causing blooms. Blue greens can, but not necessarily do, produce these toxins. Best recent info is from Oregon a few years back and the treatment process generally removed the toxin there. Looks like in this case the toxin is getting through treatment and requiring some modifications. I'm not aware of any monitoring Melbourne water is doing. Here's a link to the blue green monitoring by FDEP. Right now, looks good for the upper St. Johns. https://floridadep.gov/AlgalBloomWeeklyUpdate

I had to quit drinking Cocoa Beach tap water a few years ago due to unexplained gastric issues. It took me about six months to narrow it down and when I stopped with the water, the uneasiness went away. Surface or ground, it's all becoming a problem.

Just for fun, that particular act of socialism came into being as the Safe Drinking Water Act, 1974, a Democratic proposal via a Republican legislature and signed into law by President Gerry Ford after Nixon stepped down. Prior to that, no such socialism existed. Free people could drink whatever they wanted...

I'm with the Republicans on this one, put it on the public tab and get it done. Enough of this easing into a third world status bullshit.
