Catch 22. They vote to acquit, he gets to rule the party and run in 2024. They convict and his base punishes them and they all turn on eachother. The public saw the insurrection and voting against it will be hard to sell. But they will.

Absolute proof has emerged to prove that President Trump's second impeachment trial is not only a SHAM, it's also shaping up to be blatantly and defiantly unconstitutional. Several news outlets are reporting that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will NOT preside over the Senate trial, even though Article 1, Section 3, Clause 6 of the United States Constitution clearly states: "When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside."

But Newsweek reports that, instead of Roberts, "Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the Senate President pro tempore, will preside. ... Newsweek found no evidence that Roberts refused or was even asked to preside over the trial."

The far-left-leaning, former-print magazine also makes the outlandish claim that: "The Constitution requires the involvement of the chief justice only when the president is on trial. Since Trump no longer is president, there is no requirement for the chief justice to be involved."

But by that same reasoning, if Donald Trump is now a private citizen, the Senate has no jurisdiction in an impeachment trial! This is a ridiculous double standard by radical Democrats and the Unhinged Left! Also, having the nation's longest-serving Democrat Senator preside over the trial of a Republican former president is not only unconstitutional, it's absurdly unfair.

Don't see any downside to the former. See a lot of upside. The last 4 years of progs and dems freaking out were glorious. The highlight of the political side of my life, really. To see that again would be icing on the cake.

The practical question is can Trump continue to pull down the GOP with him. His threat of a new party is like OAN's threat to overtake fox. He wont get the numbers and hes fishing in the same pond with people who are far more sophisticated at this stuff than he is.

He is the party now. And some of your fellow travelers know it. Do you think that they would try to impeach him in order to prevent him from running in 2024 if they thought that he would destroy the party by doing so? I know what you are thinking - yes, we are that stupid. You might be right. To this very day, progs still surprise me with the magnitude of their stupidity.

I think it's a game of self preservation for a lot of Pugs. They don't want to get primaried by the magists so they will argue that the whole point is moot and vote against impeachment. If anyone tries to question them they can just say "he lost the election, it's time to move on". Easy-peazy. Behind the scenes though, I think steps will be taken to make sure he doesn't get elected to anything more important than dog catcher. Maybe Governor of Florida or something no one has any respect for.

Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system.

In biology, such behavior of cells is called "cancer".

Mitch McConnell used trump like trump used michael Cohen. He was a useful idiot. McConnell gave him the names and got McConnell's judges in, not Trump's. The tax cut was symbiotic. After that, McConnell sees no use for trump. He offers nothing to the party. The base is split and Trump's red hat brigade are not republicans. It's time to lance the festering boil and impeach him.

Catch 22? Maybe.
But hell, we watched Rubio, Cruz, lady G, and many more perform the equivalent
of a cirque du soleil contortionist routine in their "support" for Trump.
Wouldn't surprise me to see them flip flop a couple times before 2024.
These guys are slime. No spine.
Ever seen a rat fit through an impossible hole? Same thing.

Gary rips shit off all the time.

He has no opinion of his own, he's just a parrot. Have you ever noticed how he never writes in complete sentences? That's because he can't.

As per the subject of the thread, I certainly hope Trump makes the Patriot Party and further guts the Republican establishment. 25% of the vote for Trump tools and 20% for regular Republicans. That's perfect!

The Patriot Party? Has Trump ever come up with anything original in his entire life? lol

Imagine arguing that the last weeks of President's lame duck session is a self pardon and its what the founders envisioned.
