Cruise Lines should not be bailed out.

None of their ships are even flagged under the US. Because they don't want to pay US fees or taxes or be required to follow US maritime regulations.

So, you flag your ship under Belize? Then ask Belize for a fuc*ing handout.

Hell, ANY company that doesn't pay taxes, shouldn't get a damned dime of taxpayer money. Not one cent. They all got a huge taxpayer handout from Trump's tax break, which they used to buy back their stock instead of saving for emergencies or giving their employees a raise.

We don't owe them a goddamn thing.

Let the billionaire CEOs and the stockholders bail them out.

Well that paid off nicely. Would have paid off more nicely had I not sold 75% of my shares at 15. But one cannot argue with profit. Was it wtf who was deriding my purchase of CCL? Heh,heh. Some people are born losers.

Carnival is selling 6 cruise ships after a $4.4 billion loss, a sign of the industry's bleak future in the coronavirus pandemic

mjankowicz@businessinsider.com (Mia Jankowicz)
Business InsiderJune 19, 2020, 4:49 AM EDT

Carnival Cruises, which includes brands such as P&O, Princess Cruises and Cunard, is to sell 6 ships amid a downturn caused by the coronavirus crisis.

The industry has been hammered by COVID-19 after multiple outbreaks occurred at sea, and ports around the world closed to cruise ships.

Carnival said it lost $4.4 billion in the past three months, and doesn't know when it can resume normal operations.

Carnival is planning to sell 6 of its cruise ships after reporting a loss of $4.4 billion in the second quarter of 2020, as the coronavirus crisis continues to hammer the cruise industry.

The company, which includes major cruise lines such as Cunard, P&O and Princess Cruises, reported on Thursday that it was "accelerating" planned sales of the ships.

It reported a massive drop its its revenues in the three-month period to May 31, taking in $700 million, a fraction of its $4.8 billion revenues for the same period in 2019, The Guardian reported.

The company said it was "unable to definitively predict" when cruises will back to normal, making it impossible to make an earnings forecast.

All its cruises were suspended in mid-March, after onboard outbreaks were reported. Across the industry, by March 25 there had been coronavirus outbreaks on 36 cruise ships worldwide, as Business Insider reported.

Although Carnival has offered customers the chance to pause their bookings for a future date, half of them requested a cash refund, the company said.

Meanwhile, administration and keeping ships afloat still costs the company $250 million a month.

An estimated 21,000 ship staff are still stuck on board 49 ships which cannot dock due to governmental restrictions, the company said.

I read an article earlier this week (not sure where but, oh well). The one prominent "analyst" says that he does not think that the cruise industry will get back to Pre-COVID levels until, , , , ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 2030!

How many "stimulus" packages are we going to have to give them??

Axios

68 cruise ships under CDC investigation following COVID outbreaks

Yacob Reyes
Mon, December 27, 2021, 9:55 PM

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday said it is actively investigating or observing 68 cruise ships following COVID-19 outbreaks on board.

Why it matters: The Omicron variant has driven up infections across the U.S., upending vacation plans and disrupting travel. The new strain is the latest sign of the pandemic's hold on the cruise line industry.

The industry, which was an early epicenter for coronavirus outbreaks, staged a comeback in September, with several preventative measures in place to curb the spread of the virus.

Details: The CDC is currently investigating 36 ships, and it has already investigated 32 additional vessels, which remain "under observation," according to its update.

The affected cruise lines include Disney, Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian.

Worth noting: An additional seven ships are being monitored by the CDC due to reported COVID infections, though case numbers are below the agency's threshold to start an investigation - cases reported in more than 0.10% of passengers or a single crew member in the previous seven days.

Representatives for the cruise lines did not immediately respond to Axios' requests for comment.
