Violence is way too prevalent in society. It cracks me up to watch the network news when they report on a "crime" but tell you that they cannot show the video because it is too graphic. Well, OK I sort of get it. But, then, the network's lead-off prime time show graphically shows some poor slob getting tore to bits-and-pieces, or what not, and that's "OK" because it's "acting".

Sure, I support better background checks and what-not. But the current state of our culture makes all of that moot as long as we let our kids play hours of extremely violent video games and such.

You hit the nail on the head.

>>>. Like in many of the country's mass shootings, Friday's attack was carried out by a man with a violent criminal history who was armed with a gun he wasn't allowed to have.

Martin, 45, had six arrests over the years in Aurora, one of Chicago's far western suburbs, for what police Chief Kristen Ziman described as "traffic and domestic battery-related issues" and for violating an order of protection. He also had a 1995 felony conviction for aggravated assault in Mississippi that should have prevented him from buying his gun, Ziman said.

He was able to buy the Smith and Wesson .40-caliber handgun on March 11, 2014, because he was issued a firearm owner's identification card two months earlier after passing an initial background check. It wasn't until he applied for a concealed carry permit five days after buying the gun and went through a more rigorous background check that uses digital fingerprinting that his Mississippi conviction was flagged and his firearm owner's ID car was revoked, Ziman said. Once his card was revoked, he could no longer legally have a gun.

"Absolutely, he was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm," she said.

But he was, and on Friday he took it and several magazines of ammunition to work. <<<

Trump said gun violence in his tweet, then went back and edited gun violence to school violence.

People aren't running around stabbing people, they are murdering them with weapons designed to kill with efficiency and precision.

shooter was a convicted felon and was not allowed to own a firearm. background check missed it and was allowed to purchase. it was caught two days later and was told to surrender gun. did not happen and the shooting happened. thats the facts jack. proof that the system in place failed.

So let us make "the system" weaker or eliminate it all together. That is the ticket.

We have to elect people who want to fix it.

Doesn't sound too strict, the guy didn't steal his gun or purchase it on the street.

Current control is too lax, and the systems have too many gaps like the one this guy got through.
Thanks crank for supporting tighter control.

Except 20 yards away, no gun control. Are you this stupid or just pretending?

20 yards from Illinois? That's a big area! Check out their regulations Einstein!

A pertinent post. So, the gov't screwed up, which allowed this tragedy to go down. So, what to do? Ban gov't? You gun ban people can rail on about whatever all you want. But, so long as we have the 2nd Amendment, you are simply making noise. If you are serious about this, start a petition to repeal the Bill of Rights and we will see where Americans stand on that issue. Otherwise, you are wasting everyone's time.

It's all explained right here in one simple graphic - https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/why-thieves-target-gun-stores

While Chicago has somewhat strict gun laws, areas immediately surrounding them do not. One simply needs to drive a few miles to an area with lax gun laws. It's not that difficult to understand.

Yes, we should do NOTHING! That way we can keep allowing these people access so that they can continue to kill our police officers. NRA pro-slaughter agenda is directly responsible for killing cops.

Yet, for some reason, they drive back to Illinois to commit the crimes. Why are the crimes worse in Illinois than in the states where the guns come from? Hypothesis: something about the people in and near Chicago.

Yes, the stats from nearby states are not that much better, but I posted data on this forum last year comparing violent crime in the (6?) states with the strictest gun control laws versus neighboring states where the laws were lax, and almost all were worse in the states with tighter laws.
