On Jan. 20, 2017, when Obama left office, outstanding public debt totaled $19,944,429,217,106, an increase of roughly $9.3 trillion. Comparatively, former President George W. Bush contributed far less to the debt. When Bush took office in January 2001, the debt was roughly $5.7 trillion.

Trump is racking up debt in a good economy created by a $1.5 trillion stimulus. Obama had to deal with the worst economy since the Great Depression.

The deficit was on a downward trend since 2012, which makes sense during economic recovery. Trump's reckless tax cuts immediately reversed the trend to the extreme, at a time when the Fed was looking at raising interest rates to control inflation.

Last time the US had a balanced budget, even a surplus paying down the debt was Clinton. Obama's budget proposals, that Congress rejected repeatedly, projected a balanced budget.

Was the increase due to Trump and the tax cuts or pre tariff spending?

I'll put a $20 that says growth will be below three percent for the fourth quarter.

And let's not forget that growth was 2.3% in the first quarter of 2018.
