Interesting article. I had never heard of the guy, but the article mentions one of his hits from 1958, "Peter Gunn" with its twangy guitar sound.

I have enjoyed many listens to Gary Hoey's version without knowing it was a cover of Duane Eddy's original.

It's got some of that Dick Dale vibe... Gary of course was a big fan of both Dick Dale and the surf scene (having done the soundtrack for Endless Summer II).

For a nice collection of surf-centric tunes in one place, check out Gary's studio version and the rest Monster Surf: Surf Songs that Really Rock

Imagine the reaction when the parents of teen kids and preachers from all walks first heard this. The devil has arrived!

Real Rockabilly legends never really die . They just slowly fade away into our own personal memorizes. Duane and his contemporary Gene Vincent ruled the day.***** While we are on the subject , JB will probably disagree with me ,but I say that the early Rockabilly Scene was just about as full on PUNK as you can get . Those guys were all fueled on alcohol , jacked up on speed and played all night till their fingers bleed .Very hardcore indeed !****
