Call it a Kentucky Waterfall, a Tennessee Top Hat or a Missouri Compromise, at the end of the day it's the same iconic haircut: the mullet.

And now fans of the business in the front, party in the back hairdo have a chance to vote on their favorite styles in this year's USA Mullet Championship.

Finalists in the kids and teens categories were selected earlier this week, and it's up to online voters to decide who wins the dubious honor of champion mullet-head before polls close on Friday.

Hard to believe the mullet has made a come back. there are several CT surfers that are currently sporting mullets. 40 years ago at 1st Peak SI I had the dubious honor of being called "Mullet Head" by a couple of the regulars who apparently I annoyed for some reason or another:>

And they want to say that gender affirming care is child abuse, but allow this?

And who named these kids? Ricky Bobbie?

In my understanding, the term mullet head traditionally meant if some dorf needed a little wising up encouragement.....
a full adult mullet to the side of the head coupla times sometimes did the trick.
Hence: a mullet hey-ed.
Guess now it means a tired male hair-do.
No worse than a yak fur wig I guess

It's inevitable really. Hell, preppy guys were getting perms last year to look like 80's New Wave stars. I'm thinking of going true old school with burnsides.

I could have placed in that contest 30 years ago, but those winners are far beyond anything I ever imagined.

Bald-spot contest is more my speed now.

Elon Musk wants to rent space on my head as part of a solar power farm.

You're a funny guy outside of NSR.

My mullet was more "punk rock" than country bear jamboree, but still was a bad idea. I'm glad there was no Internet.

Yep, spiked top, long and wavy in the back. Hideous.

The chicks were digging the spiked mop back in the day, but the most likely explanation involves inhalation of copious amounts of CFC hairspray on their part.

Misunderstood the subject, but this one is far better than a bad haircut - The black mullet run is on! As Honest John used to say, "We won't tell the northerners how good they are, else we won't be able to afford them." Of course, the best way to get them is free - cast net. Got my first batch yesterday and we're frying them up Sat. Used to have all you can eat for $3.95 every Thurs at Fisherman's Wharf in CCB back in the early 70s. The mullet man would pull up in his John boat about 9 on Wed night, then I would have to fillet and bread 100 lbs. Best fried fish ever. My dad raised us on them (and crabs and oysters) all free from the Indian River. I did the same with my kids and they will still drop everything when we have them.

When I was a kid in the early 60s it was called "Beer on the Pier" (and that was the only name on the sign). As long as the parents were buying beer (we were too young, so sodas for us), they kept bringing steamed crabs out for free. They had traps out back and they were always loaded. We used to go their regularly.
