>>Skateboarding isn't common in Indian cities, let alone remote rural areas like where Gond lives. The skatepark in her village was built by a German social activist. It ignited in her a life-altering passion for skateboarding - a passion Gond has pursued despite the rigid patriarchal norms in her village and one that has taken her to championships overseas.

It's an incredible story of how one skatepark can change a girl's - and really an entire community's - life.<<

Mine sure kept me out of trouble. Hours and hours and hours of perfecting a single trick and learning to suck up pain.

Mine did too. Still love carving around the driveway on the carver. The doctor guessed I was a skateboarder from my medical records.

Watched Skater Girl with the family and we all really enjoyed it.
A well done and sweet movie with a message.

I never was a hard core skateboarder but have had a few, first one was a clay wheeled hobie super surfer. I thought it was long gone but my brother found it at our family's place and rebuilt it back to stock looking with the right stickers and finish, but with safer modern trucks/wheels and gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago. Still has my woodburned name address and phone number on the bottom where my 8 year old self wood burned it with my dad's soldering iron.

I got a hobie super surfer long board from Roy at Ocean Sports around 2002 and cruise the neighborhood on that still. That is the best i can do now! Ha! just happy to feel the glide once in a while.

I got my start on a proline with clay wheels. Upgraded to a Gordon and smith rocket with Cadillac wheels, the very first polyurethane wheels. Super cool. Got it from Juno Surf shop from Mrs Butterworth. That's where I got my birdwells and wax. I was pretty pleased with the upgrade to polyurethane. I still have one Cadillac wheel. I always knew it was historic.
