Rays, Astros on Historic Collision Course Heading Into Game 7

SAN DIEGO - The Rays are one loss away from the most epic collapse in 16 years. Their hitters have stopped hitting. Their lockdown bullpen has stopped locking games down. Their smothering defense has stopped smothering.

Cra cra. Two errors for the walk off single win. If you haven't seen the highlights yet you will have the next three days to see over and over.

that was puzzling. Betts interviewed later was even questioning it.

Part of the Rays' season-long strategy was based on statistics... bringing in a reliever before any hitters saw the starting pitcher for a 3rd time in the same game. Coach didn't want Snell to face the hot bats of Betts/Seager a 3rd time, in case they'd gotten their timing down by then. They basically danced with the approach that got them there, but it backfired on them this time. Even Betts said that it was the "Cy Young version of Snell" on the mound. Snell was on fire, and should have stayed in, but coach might have feared negative GM reaction if he went with his gut over data and been wrong on that side. Oh well...

I bet Burry is sad the RedSox didn't hang on to Betts and the Patriots didn't hang onto Tom Brady, but that's for another thread.

Mookie! The spoiler. Two strikes. He waits for that all too tempting third strike and jacks it out of the park. He doesn't even look big enough to put that ball into orbit like that. What an athlete. It turns out, he's an amazing bowler too. http://www.google.com/amp/s/ww...tional-c303486790.html

I questioned the decision as well, but having said that, Cash's unconventional managing is a big part of how the Rays got to be in the WS to begin with. I'm sure he's regretting the decision more than anybody except for probably Snell. Either way it was a great season and can't wait till next spring. Raysup!

Moneyball!!

I guess they had to stick to the theory if they did all year. What if he kept him in and he got rocked?

We'd have lost.

What if he left him in and he stayed on fire and switched the momentum of our bats?

It's easy to second guess things from our couch with the luxury of hindsight. But I admit, I'd be a terrible manager, just look at my history in all things fantasy....it's like I want to throw money away every season....
