Don't know if any of you old timers from South Patrick Shores (like you, dingpatch) remembers Dickie the Mailman, but, his full page obit was in the Space Coast Daily News yesterday. He was 94 and died within 4 days of his 93 year old wife (or vice versa, can't remember). He was the founding supervisor of the Indialantic branch and delivered our route (on NE 2nd St) out of the Sat Beach office before that (in the early 60s, back when they walked the routes). [The Sat Beach post office was on the south end of the South Patrick Plaza (Gaskins Drugs, Silber Shoes, Jackson market, Rocket Lounge, and, eventually the Golden Dolphin). Harry Clark and I embedded our handprints when they poured the concrete for the extension in about 1961 or so.] He used to carry dog treats for the pooches and my brother followed him every day. Super nice guy.

That's awesome. Been a south pat resident for 20 yrs. Is South Patrick Plaza the place where Little Phillies is or the one with Sports Page (rip) and Red Leopard?

Speaking of Gaskins Drugs, Mr Gaskins passed away last year, the week after Hurr Dorian came through here. Very good man

Ran into Mr. Gaskins at the Palms rehab where my dad was just before he (Mr. Gaskins) passed. Yes, he was a really good guy. In addition to many other things, he sponsored the Surfers in the Platinum Coast Little League for years. (We played at Sea Park Elem. I was on the Braves, but knew him well from the drugstore.) I think he also sponsored a Senior League team when we got to that leve. I remember the first time Mr. Gaskins sent me back home to get a note from my dad to get his cigarettes. Then a couple of years later to get a note for my model airplane glue. My dad could understand the cigarettes, but, "Why the hell do you need a note for airplane glue?!" We soon found out.

Remember that big lobster carcass he had mounted in the store? He used to slay the bugs.
