First presumptive coronavirus case identified in Brevard County

Look for more closures (and beaches? ) and lockdown coming.

Has there been any discussion of closing the beaches? I don't see how they would accomplish this or what good it would do. I can understand closing most things but preventing you from going to the beach is basically like saying you can't take a walk down your street.

Run for the hills! I just hope all this inconvenience works and this virus doesn't spread anymore.

Cocoa Beach City Commissioners have a special City Commission meeting tonight at 6pm
to 'Declare State Of Emergency' which will empower the City to take actions necessary to
protect public health and safety, including closures of public beaches, parks,
restaurants, bars, or other public gatherings if conditions warrant such closures.

All Florida bars and nightclubs will be closed for the next 30 days, Governor Ron DeSantis said in a press conference Tuesday.

probably should just shut down all the parking lots. that along with the announcement will keep the crowds down to make the risk non-existent at the beach

I don't understand closing the beaches. There is ample room to spread out, its open air, and one would think the UV from the sun would kill any airborne virus. Plus it helps to alleviate some of the social anxiety.

I think it's intended for Daytona, Cocoa, PC spring breakers and such.

That is the only thing that could potentially make sense. However, I don't see how they can enforce that. They might be able to prevent you from parking at the accesses but if you can walk there or bike there then you should still be able to go.

just close the beaches already...It's easy for huge masses to park across the street and use our small beach access (Ex. St Marks). I saw a large group 15+ all crowded together., up and down the beach..mobilize the National guard if needed, I was forced out of the water before by the National guard surfing the day before Hugo hit SC...they have vehicles that can roll up with bullhorns (the surf was not that great anyways, something about Hurricanes coming right at you results in junky surf).

Unfortunately, we have a lot more than 2 cases if we have any at all. You can't even be tested for COVID-19 unless you are showing symptoms AND have either traveled to a high-risk country within the last 30 days or can prove that you have had direct contact with someone who has tested positive.

Think about what percentage of our population has either traveled to a high-risk country within the last 30 days or can prove that they have had direct contact with someone who has tested positive. That is a TINY slice of our overall population.

It seems to me that they should be able to test for the antibodies or something. When I enrolled at UCF they required my vaccination records which I did not have, but a simple blood test from my doctor showed all of my vaccines. Why can't they just test the blood itself? FTR I'm not a doctor (or a gynecologist, but I'll take a look)...

Eventually they will, but the virus is so new they don't really know what the antibodies look like. I saw reports from one or two other countries that have a test ready or in the works, but it's not widely available.

I wish I could get tested for antibodies. The shit I had between Christmas and mid-January had a lot of the same symptoms. My blood labs were a mess.

Hey RegularJoe, the same thing happened to me and a co-worker around mid December. I was tested for flu and strep, but both were negative. Fever, dry cough, difficulty breathing for over 3 weeks. No appetite and I lost 14 lbs. Never been that sick for that long in my life! Def. scary at times. My co-worker still has a cough and he is a young guy. China is now saying their first official case occurred on Nov 17, so no telling how many people transmitted it overseas between that point and the travel ban. An antibody test would be helpful.

I was in Oz last week; had to come back early.

That country seems to have its crap together despite the fires, etc.
