Spring Break Plans? Costa with the kids?

A message from BREVARD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Brevard Public Schools will follow this direction today from the Florida health and education departments:

Any students, faculty or staff who go on a cruise, anywhere, must self-isolate for 14 days upon return.

Any students, faculty or staff who go on foreign travel, to any country, must self-isolate for 14 days upon return.

See the BPS homepage for continuous updates.

This e-mail has been sent to you by BREVARD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

They didn't mention anything about how absence from school would be made up, or alterations to the FA (Fail from too many absences) policy.

Relatively good-to-great immunity and 2-week long Spring Breaks

I just went to London (really cheap ticket) and figured it was a safer place to go than Seattle.

don't count on it . The UK government has decided not to follow WHO advice. I guess we'll see who is right when this is all done and dusted.

My partner's company made their own decision and have gone on fully remote as of Monday. It wasn't easy for the company to do this - they had to check internet connectivity and distribute laptops (which they had to buy) for all junior programmers. But the company will keep running regardless.

The colleges on the other hand, are sending students home, but are making the administrators still meet in person - how does it make sense to have all leaders of an organization exposed to one another, particularly when they tend to be in the high risk group?).

The London theaters are still operating. I don't know for how much longer. The difference between London and Paris doesn't make sense. So I'm hiding.

The UK abandoned its coronavirus plan after realizing it would have resulted in 'hundreds of thousands of deaths'

Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday was forced to abandon that strategy and adopt more draconian measures meant to suppress the disease.

The shift came after new data on the spread of COVID-19 in Italy suggested that merely attempting to mitigate the disease would "likely result in hundreds of thousands of deaths and health systems (most notably intensive care units) being overwhelmed many times over."

"Perhaps our most significant conclusion is that mitigation is unlikely to be feasible without emergency surge capacity limits of the UK and US healthcare systems being exceeded many times over," the report said.

This is the publication from Imperial College London that scared Boris Johnson and, it seems, the White House, into getting really serious today.
And sure enough, from the National Theatre in London:
Following the latest government advice about Coronavirus, the National Theatre building is now closed to the public.
It's with enormous sadness that we temporarily close our doors, but the safety of our audiences, company and staff is of utmost importance. We apologise for the disruption and thank you for your support during this period of great uncertainty.
Today (Tuesday 17 March), we will be in contact with ticket holders for the cancelled performances (currently from 16 March - 12 April). If the closure period is extended, we will be in touch with bookers for future performances in good time, and we'll also post updates to our website and social media channels.

Yes, I saw that they have new guidance out. Gearing up the plants as well for a wartime effort to produce respirators - that will be interesting. Apparently Boris thinks he's the new Churchill. OTOH, at least my friends are posting their test results (aka they can GET tested).
