He definitely deserves it ! The man is currently the best surfer on the planet ! Only 8 more to go to tie Kelly

I think a lot of the new greats can take comfort in a title or two, but it starts to sink in that someone did it 11 times when you consider the injuries, the good luck and bad, the ravages of time and just the recognition that the drive becomes less relentless every year. Slater's achievement seems normal but it's absolutely not. We are just used to it because we all watched it and expected it. John John looks like a better surfer today than Kelly in his prime but it's not a fair comparison because Kelly literally brought our sport forward to a point where his extraordinary surfing was the beginning point of where kids like John John started. They emulated his surfing and then they progressed it beyond that. That's why it's not a fair comparison. As John John gets older, I would love to hear his take on Kelly, the kids growing up that think it's just normal to surf like John John and how much that next generation can progress the sport in ways we can't even imagine.
