ww Posts: 16278 Joined Forum: 08/17/2007	Surfer's take on new lease for San Onofre state park The celebrated, crowded surf spot was leased by the Marines to the state of California in 1971 for $1/year. Today, the law requires leases of federal lands to be based on fair market value. The negotiations were long and corners were cut to keep it affordable to the state, but the fair market value came to $3.2 million/year. We should bear that in mind for valuing our own beach parks.
