Not to discount his death, but I am surprised that this doesn't happen more often. They are literally riding mountains.

RIP

It will happen more. This is the age of snap and and insta and every other monetized social media that could mean millions of clicks and therefore dollars. Kodak courage, debts, and huge payouts will make this too attractive to pass up.

I'd rather live in a van down by the river. Somethings just aren't worth it.

Yep, might as well start the "Hold My Beer, And Watch This" channel.

Always sad to hear of surfing fatalities. Surfing at that level really does require you to put yourself in harm's way. Like Cole said...surprising there aren't more

A certain part of me wants to hold on to the notion that at least he went out doing what he wanted.

As I was told many years ago - Surfing is the only sport where the playing field is trying to kill you.

That wave scares me. Shit, wavies a fifth of that size scare me. That does not make me a coward. That fear keeps me alive.

From the article linked below, it sounds like he had a heart attack while be pulled out, and not that a he died from some situation while surfing...

He was old and fat like me. Doesn't suprise me one bit he died from a heart attack staring at that wave. Logjammer was my neighbor for a while, he had one and he was skinny.

R.I.P. Logjammer. What a cool guy he was.

I had a good friend die from a heart attack while surfing big waves as well. R.I.P. Rob Youngkin.

Logjammer was one of my favorites, and looked to be a fit older guy.

I just might set myself up for a screening.
