Been checking on late June next year.

Just about $1000 for "economy". Thought I saw a "deal" on Alaska Airlines for $800+ !!! Ya right, that was for One Way !!! Round-trip was about $1670. Coach/economy !!

Google Flights looks bad for June. For Jan., there's some main cabin deals for a bit over $600, round trip.'

You can find a few "sort of" deals, with a MCO to HNL travel time of 25 hours !!!! Economy is not too bad from MCO to LAX and such but, a total travel time of 13+- hours is a bit much for those seats, , , , ,!!! My ass is killing me just thinking about it.

I opted for "premium economy" on American, up "almost" to the front on a 777 from DFW to HNL, 8 hours and some minutes.

Way too far in advance. Tickets will get significantly cheaper 2-3 months out.

that's not too bad, and your back will thank you! Get up and walk some laps when it's not turbulent. Some stretches will help.

I had to "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" ASAP.

Way back in my "working lifetime" I traveled for business pretty frequently in my job as a Senior Subcontract Administrator for defense contractors. I paid close attention to Skymiles, Honors points, National rental points, dining and shopping miles, etc., and AMEX points. Flew MCO to Hawaii with Mrs. Dingpatch twice in 1st and the last 2 times with the lay flat bed. All on miles & points, all I paid was Fed taxes.

One time, with Delta, they had a "flash" sale with double+ Skymiles for RTs between MCO and John Wayne. Program Review time in Anaheim!!!!!!! There were six of us "program" types on my flight out.

Prices are definitely rising, but Southwest has had decent sales. I've got a $281 to San Diego for Jan. They're still offering that fare for much of the month, and it would be worth checking Google Flights.
For some reason, no one seems to want to go to the beaches then, so Pacific Beach, cheap.

Sale prices to Honolulu and Kahalui (Maui) starting Jan. 16 and going into March. They will show up readily on Google Flights. Including American, which has relatively good bag policies. BTW, Southwest is finishing a Tuesday sale. Dropped $50 off my San Diego trip. Now $227.
Don't expect bargains to the Big Island. Paradise Helicopters in Hilo is offering flights to Mauna Loa.

Everybody, and all their mothers, are trying to get to the Big Island to see Lava.

Dingpatch: Yup! Hawaiian Volcano Observatory: Forecasts indicate it may take two days for lava flows to reach the Daniel K. Inouye Highway (Saddle Road)." The road connects Kona to Hilo. There is a long way around the south side of the island, going past Kilauea.

Eleven years ago, , , , , , , the Saddle Road drive from Hilo to Waikoloa was a "trip". It was sundown and a band of wind and rain was starting to come in. Going up on the Hilo side was the stormiest but, up in the saddle was fairly "dry" but "in the clouds". It was a very eerie moon scape.

And, I've driven the South route from Kona, and Waikoloa, to the sea cliffs south of Pahoa a couple of times. The South route from Waikoloa to Hilo/Pahoa is a long drive.
