From Melody on FB: We are having a Celebration of Life for Dan "Sunrise Surfer" Mahoney this Saturday, October 9th, at 9 am at the south end of Lori Wilson Park. Please join us and share your memories of Dan. ??

Although I have sadly moved away and don't check in very often, I was so sad to read of Dan's passing. I can't believe it's been almost 20 years since I met Sunrise when I first started surfing. I never met anyone with more stoke. A genuine good and honest heart and inspiration to everyone he met, as shown by all of these wonderful posts. My most sincere condolences to Melody and his family. I am very sad I won't be there for his paddleout, but I know Dan will get these messages and good vibes up there. Rest and surf on in peace. Collin

I know, it is sad. I surfed Hightower yesterday and that was the last spot I saw Dan a few months ago. I didn't know a single person out surfing. It's always nice to see someone you know and Dan was that guy typically.
