Army Corps to begin Cocoa Beach sand project
Jim Waymer, Florida Today 5 hrs ago

Cocoa Beach - the Space Coast's premier tourism spot - soon will see new sands, dredged up and pumped in from shoals several miles offshore of Cape Canaveral.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin placing the new sand on the so-called North Reach section of its Brevard County Shore Protection Project "on or about March 20," Corps officials announced this week.

The effort will put about 465,000 cubic yards of sand on the southern four miles of the 9.8-mile long North Reach shoreline, from Patrick Space Force Base to North Second Street in Cocoa Beach.

Anybody remember how fired up we were and tried to fight this?

Dredge and fill really mess up the surf breaks. Oh well.

To make matters worse, the bars are in fine shape. Nice long combers.

This was supposed to begin on March the 1st ( I thought that the powers that be : ie the Hotel /Tourism Industrial Complex ----had some how managed to stall the project , until after Spring Break , but they appear to be going forward with it right in the middle ! ) With any luck ,they might bury the lot of them, so we don't have to put up with their drunken stupidity !

If Satty beach is a good indicator........then it will take roughly 365 days after sand dumping before the breaks start to come back from PSFB to North Second Street.

Waiting for waves is ok......most people spend their lives waiting for nothing.

So did the last one. I had a 3-4 foot jump down from the dune to the hardpack at NoClub.
