I don't think there's a rule or anything, but it was a performance art made famous by queer men. Some women do mimic the outrageous "look" though.

As far as kids, I think it's good for them to see that people are free to express themselves without being constrained by notions and norms of gender and fashion imposed upon them.

But of course, no one is forcing any kids to listen to stories read by drag queens, if it's not your cup of tea that's no problem.

But if we're honest about it and set aside our own insecurities, drag queens are about freedom, entertainment, and definitely not about sexuality (at least in terms of the shows for kids - adult shows may be bawdy).

But honestly I mentioned the drag queen story time because it's a trigger, and we do that on NSR sometimes. On a more serious note, I think it's good for cis-hetero people to attend Pride; it's a much more sincere experience of freedom than any flag waving, goose stepping maga rally.
