Biden/Harris call for 3 months of masks.

That should trigger some cons.

Hmmm, without any choice - -

It's really good they are showing their true colors so quickly.

And I'm sure they wouldn't put any restrictions on old people, with pre-existing conditions, shopping in big-box stores at peak hours. Why? Because SCIENCE, that's why.

I haven't had a chance to verify this but if this is true then Trump may not even need to campaign. They can do it for him.

Pretty much everyone is playing along for the short-term whether they agree that it does any good or not, and there isn't anything wrong with that, because there is still a lot we don't know about the virus. But people aren't going to do it for years and it is a slippery slope. That's what I have been trying to point out with the hypothetical questions about the gloves and the goggles. This could very easily and quickly morph into something that most people aren't onboard with. But most of the time I'm just fucking with people.

The fact that no one is allowed to question the mask thing without people losing their f'ing minds should worry most people.

Well if you're using SCIENCE..... odds are you dont have to worry about those old people with pre-existing conditions spreading the virus..... because they may be DEAD.

Clearly a stupid move by Biden. More to come I expect.

Nothing to do with socialism or communism; it's pure neo-liberalism.

He said everyone "should wear a mask" for the next 3 months.

and errr.. everyone should.

What it's "about" is stopping a pandemic, and trying to keep more people alive.

I mean, you have to wear PANTS when you go out in public, and nobody's going to DIE from seeing your junk.

Why all the crying about a mask that could very well save your own life. Damn, I mean there hasn't been this much crying since it became the law to wear a seatbelt..

Dotards should start getting butthurt about wearing pants.. I mean, might as well right? Get Trump whining about that next..

We should have had a 95% mask wearing and social distancing protocol in place back in March or April.

Tens of thousands would be alive today if we did.

I'd be good with a national temporary mandate with the provision to dial it back when the current guidelines of the CDC are met.

Probably would have had much less impact on our nation in terms of jobs and the economy, and the duration of mask wearing. Looks like masks are here to stay for a long time now. Trump's America.

For reference, the CDC on April 3rd issued their first clear recommendation for asymptomatic individuals to wear masks.

The Surgeon General tweeted on February 29:
https://twitter.com/Surgeon_Ge...us/1233725785283932160
Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!

They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can't get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!

The lack of a mask mandate in March (and earlier) should be blamed on the scientific community, not on Trump. They own that. Trump owns it since then.

"Every single American should be wearing a mask when they're outside for the next three months at a minimum," said Biden.

California Sen. Kamala Harris, Biden's running mate, agreed with him. "That's what real leadership looks like," she said.

If Biden thinks it should be nationwide, and Harris calls that leadership, why would he want state governors to mandate it?

He's drawing trump out. He's forcing trump to state his position on masks very clearly in a time where there is no good reason not to wear a mask. This is a referendum on his Covid leadership. As an added benefit, Biden gets to shame Texas and Florida governors for not requiring it and prove that trump hates states' rights for those who do. Trump is being played.

Why not just protect the vulnerable? Over 40% of deaths have been in nursing homes. Think about that. Not people in a certain age group but older people in nursing homes account for over 40%. Wear the masks but at some point we have to come to the realization that everyone is not equally at risk if we want to get this thing under control. Wearing a mask might be seen as a nice thing to do but making at-risk people feel like they are safe to shop at Publix, Sam's club, Target, etc as long as people are wearing masks isn't nice.

AHHHHH, so your approach is to have everyone continue wearing the masks and not ask the old people with pre-existing conditions to change anything about their lifestyles or shopping habits, etc. The masks are just supposed to make all those who are at-risk feel like they the masks are going to save them and they have nothing to worry about as long as everyone is wearing masks. You guys are doing a real service to your fellow man. Doing the lord's work out there I tell you.

I get that you guys think masks will solve this whole thing but plenty of people have died who were adamant about wearing masks throughout this whole thing. Try to put the mask issue aside for just one tiny second and think about what we can do besides covering our faces that could also prevent deaths. The fact that over 40% of the people who have died from coronavirus have been in nursing homes, the fact that 80% of the coronavirus deaths are over 65 years old, and the fact that just under 90% of the deaths over 65 years old have had a very specific list of pre-existing conditions should give you a raging clue.

Sniper, you seem to be relying on the dated information that most people who get it will recover and be fine. Most will be asymptomatic. That's just not true. Vulnerable is a definition that keeps expanding.

JB, that isn't true. As of late July, 80% of the deaths attributed to Coronavirus were for people over 65 years old. 0.1% of the deaths were under 17 years old.

Of 1,500 people who were studied who were experiencing long-term effects after Coronavirus, such as lung-scarring, only 12.5% of those effects lasted longer than 4 months.

Everyone IS NOT equally at risk.

Pretty much everyone is wearing masks but I'm seeing a lot of obese old people walking around like everything is cool because people have masks on. For someone in their twenties, that's fine. For someone who is over 65 years old, obese, and using a walker shopping at peak hours of the day in crowded stores. It isn't. You can't tell me these two people are equally at risk.

If everyone unmasks and everything goes back to normal, herd immunity requires 80% infection.

That's 1,280,000 deaths if the virus has a .5 kill rate.

And you are worried about wearing a piece of cloth over your faces during a pandemic?

>> Keep at it Q's and we will never recover from this nightmare pandemic. << theglide. That's the exact right answer. The motivation for the ceaseless questions is to stop the current solution with the attack that it's not based upon proof, reason or documented science. It's this artificial position that pretends "the science" proves that masks don't work, we don't know the long term effects and we don't have studies. This need for certainty is not the quest of a scientific mind's need to refine, to purify and to really know something as a fact. It's a cynical effort to undermine any conclusion as suspect and to cast doubt on every piece of information as a partisan's opinion. It's attacking the science by attacking every scientist and doing so with a false identity of a science, evidence based background. The goal is to justify the castrated inertia of the current regime and use their enemies weapons on them. It's not a real question. It's an endless series of questions that the likes of snippy makes to to be able you don't really know any better than anyone else so your guess is nothing more than an opinion. A partisan opinion. Q.E.D.

What if it takes years to create a vaccine? Everyone is wearing masks and people are still dying. I am not telling anyone not to wear a f'ing mask but at some point, we need to stop focusing on making people comply with wearing masks and start trying to figure out what else we can do to scale back the death toll. I'm not saying don't wear the mask. Not sure how many times I've said that. Some people need to start focusing more on the real problem and less on just focusing anger at people who won't do what you want them to do. This thing kills old people with pre-existing conditions. What are we doing about that? If you expect 80% of the population to put the brakes on life for a few years until we figure it out then that ain't a winning strategy.

What in the hell goes through these dolt's minds to make them want to believe that wearing masks and social distancing are not good things?

Here's something to think about..

COVID has so far affected approximately 8% of the US population.

Herd Immunity requires 75-80% infection (in other words- most people need to get infected and whatever happens to them after that, including death/permanent damage)

We are a big pile of dry kindling sitting in the woods, with a small flame waiting to reach us and turn into a massive forest fire.

What has happened so far is absolutely nothing compared to what could be waiting for us. Soooooo far from over.

Tom, No Big Deal. The 80% equals only 1,500,000 COVID deaths. What's everybody getting all excited about? It's only a "drop in the bucket" with a Bonus that it only kills the old and weak.

Oh, and, , , , , NOBODY yet knows as to wether-or-not there really is any "immunity" from COVID after you've had it. I guess the CDC can't even say that you are "good" for even 3 months!

We are smart enough to fill in the blanks. When you are not in your house and in a public situation, wear a mask. Sure, I understand that if you tell this to Trump supporters, they will slap it to pornhub in the basement with a mask on their face. We are smarter than that.

China: 84,000 confirmed cases 4,634 deaths, current spreading rate = nearly contained. Percentage of population tested, well over 50

get up early and go surf - it'll make that hangover go away and/or make the workday more tolerable :)

Trump's USA: 5.4 million confirmed cases, 169000 deaths, current spreading rate = wildfire. Percentage of population tested, less than 10. Also note the US population is significantly less than China ( 1/4 I believe ) so a true comparison would need to multiply our numbers by 4. Yet we're arguing about wearing a mask... They usually say freedom isn't free in one context, but it appears here the freedom people were given on this issue literally came at the cost of what may well have been preventable deaths a lot of preventable deaths. The numbers show things could've been different. And it's not just China it's many civilized countries who's numbers look much better than US. When the numbers are put into appropriate context we are in the same ballpark as many third world countries.
