Love the playing for change series. There is some very, very cool vids in that series.

This is a fav...love the passion the players put into this, even Yo-Yo Ma is cello facing while he plays his $1million plus cello! Actually, not sure which one he is playing as he a bunch and they are worth millions, as is worthy of his talent.

The other series is the Tiny Desk Concert.
Here is some more Cat Stevens/Yusuf from that:

This was my introduction to this song in the 80s.

Grandpa says what?

Man, are we a bunch of old bastards now. Anyone got a spare ear-horn so I can listen to Cat Stevens?

At least we are still above ground. Many of my friends have passed away lately.

I always wonder in 100 years if this music we listen to will still be considered good.

I'm not a big fan of cat stevens and think his music is boring. it took Natalie Merchant to make me listen to his music. Still think it's boring.

Plus that whole islam conversion thing and bashing Rushdie was ugly. But, I can separate the artist with the musis and vice versa.

when i was growing up the radio was filled with current music, and several stations were oldies from the 1950's, or big band type music from the 1940's. Nothing i recall from the 1930's to speak of except for some root blues occasionally. There was nothing 50+ years old being played except for the classical music stations.

Now look at the top stations and what music they are playing. Many are focused on music from the 1960's through the 1980's.

The 1960's and 1970's was a breeding ground for creativity and earnest music. It really was an awesome time for music.

Since then the industry changed a lot, corporate formulas and artists, autotune, consolidation of radio stations under giant corporations, loss of great djs at local and national level, autotune, changing formats of choice, autotune, and autotune.

I like a lot of modern artists also, but don't really care for most of what is on the current pop charts.

There is a ton of new music, but it's not easy to find. Like you said, every radio station that isn't top 40 plays comfort music from 30 years ago, so new music is nonexistent on the airwaves. I miss the pre jazz WFIT days. They were the shit when it came to new music.

The "why is modern music so boring" is a question that has been asked for years. The answer to the question is that it's not the artists fault, but rather how the industry works.

I went to see Me First in Orlando and Surfbort opened for them. I did a Surfbort station on Pandora and it played The Frights, then I did a Frights station and it played FIDLAR.

The Frights are pretty good, but a bit poppy for me.

FIDLAR I like, and they now have their own playlist.
