I thought it had a terrible time finding a distributor, and it seemed as if you'd have to go to a large city to see it. The movie has a rave review at the NY Times, with this caution:
"After I saw "Megalopolis" a second time, I flashed on something that the critic David Thomson wrote in 1997 in a review of the neo-noir "L.A. Confidential." Thomson was enthusiastic about the film, but wondered if big audiences would find it too demanding. "We are out of training," he wrote, an admirably gentle way to address the lament that the mass audience has no interest in putatively difficult movies."
L.A. Confidential is one of the most memorable films I've ever seen.

Didn't make it today. Trying enforced laziness to calm down the lower back. New Yorker's Richard Brody has this virtuoso paragraph:
Think about it - but not too hard. (Does he also reverse gravity?) Cinematically, "Megalopolis" is a skyscraper of cards. It's not a chain of dominoes set up to fall with gaudy precision but a mighty contrivance magnificently envisioned yet insubstantially joined, as fragile as it is wondrous. It wouldn't withstand a push; it would just collapse in a disastrous, unrecognizable heap. So don't push, as only a malicious child would do. The fragility of conception isn't a bug but a feature of this cinematic soap bubble of a dreamy wonder. Coppola offers a vision as phantasmagorical as it is absurd, as fanciful as it is exhilarating. Two things keep this contrivance held together in tenuous balance: a clear dramatic framework and Coppola's sheer strength of feeling.
