Planning a 1 week trip to use a freebie I got from Hilton.

Ya, ya, the Strip and all that but, what/where else ???

I do have an all-day tour booked to do the Hoover Dam and then the Western areas of the Grand Canyon (14 people max in a plushed out Mercedes Sprinter). And, one of the nights I plan on driving west out to the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area to watch the sunset and the look at the stars on a moonless desert night.

And no, I Am Not going to see "The Newt" or David Copperfield.

There's an Argentine restaurant there called Rincon de Buenos Aires:

https://rincondebuenosaires.com

They had the best steak I've ever eaten. The cut is technically called EntraƱa (skirt steak) and is usually served with a chimichurri sauce. I think that is the traditional "churrasco" in most countries, but some places serve a different cut when you order churrasco.

Their empanadas were top-notch as well. I hope nothing has changed (except their location), since I hope to eat there again before I die.

Thanks, looks like the stuff.

And, I do know that Vegas is a Number One destination for Hawaiians and, as such, I am told that there are a few very good Hawaiian places to eat.

The Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam are good calls. I've been following Lake Mead and it is just sad.

Anyway, Go shoot an M60 or MG-42. certainly something you wouldn't forget.

Been there and done that, , , , , , ,

Already got to ride in plenty of choppers, , , , , , ,

Fired and cleaned a M60 at Ft Hood and, the down-side was that I also had to hump it once on a 10 mile "hike". Mother! Fired a M2 on top of a M113. The best was when we first dropped being Airmobile and went to Armored Cav in 1974, , , , , , one of the "standard issue" pieces of equipment that came with the M113 APC and the M60 tank was the old M3 "Grease Gun". I got to fire it full-auto at the range once, pretty cool. I carried it when I would be the Captain's or the XO's RTO. The couple M3s we had were too "precious" and "desired" so they were "pulled" and replaced by the "shorty" model M16s which were pretty sexy. I did not mind slinging the shorty because it was a lot shorter/smaller and lighter; just carrying the PRC77 radio and spare batteries was about enough to carry in the first place (along with my ruck and the Captain's pistol belt, 45 and ammo..

There's a huge swimming pool on the Strip. The area around Flagstaff, Arizona has all sorts of sights, one favorite being Sunset Crater, a cinder cone that popped up circa 1100 AD. Local indigenous people found the cinders were effective water-conserving mulch for their corn.
The Canyon is impressive. I had a memorable look at the north side. The classic adventure story is "We SWAM the Grand Canyon" by Bill Baggs.
I've looked around a bit of the Strip. The Bellagio fountain, at night, is not to be missed. I thought the fake Eiffel Tower was kind of fascinating. Weird was a surf-clothing store with a bunch of items conjuring up the Outer Banks. And this is fairly accessible to California, Baja, and any number of great Mexican beaches?
A few Canyon from above photos, here Flickr
Just a few from LV. I can dig up some more. Flickr

The Scenic Air tours of the Grand Canyon are pretty cool. Like WW's pics it gives you real perspective on just how big and magnificent it is.

They used to fly a Ford Tri-motor for a vintage tour but quit about 15 or 20 years ago as there aren't many of them left flying any longer. In his flying youth (basically flying anything to get hours) my brother worked for them and was type rated in the ford Tri-motor and flew tours. It was pretty cool but gave you an appreciation for how far we have come since 1928 in passenger aircraft tech! LOL.
