Pavones is such a fun wave. I heard there is a 5 star hotel on the point now. Paradise lost but I'd probably stay there now. Back in 1992 we camped on that point with hardly anyone around.

There is no 5 star hotel on the point. There is a new condo complex with units for rent. Vey expensive, but it seems to blend in as I hardly noticed it. Yea camping on the point was the bomb!! Paradise aint lost just the cantina.......

Thanks for the info. Haven't been there since 2016 and the hotel was under construction. If I went back i'd probably stay there as now can afford it. I'm not sure I'd enjoy camping in a third world country anymore. Roughing it is a youth sport !

The cabina where I stayed in 1991, just across from the old cantina, was so hot and nasty I bugged out in the middle of the night and slept in a hammock.

Haven't made it back since, but will have my ashes scattered there (the lineup, not the cabina) someday.

Edit: Just wondering about ranking length of the wave. We know Chicama is longer, but what about Raglan and Skeleton Bay?

I wondered about the length too. Raglan seems to go on for a mile or two.

I guess at 10 feet and 210 degrees Pavones becomes one wave, so maybe that's the idea.

I camped there in 01. Tried to go to the soda to buy water but there was a giant snake, with a diamond pattern, across the whole road. I described it to a biologist who said anything with a diamond pattern should be deemed poisonous. That it was a Matabuey, ox killer. Also said that the fangs are so long they often don't have to inject poison.

05 was my last trip. In 01, I helped German guy. He was an heir to a Mercedes fortune. He gave me a house. He introduced me to the drug king pin, who wanted to build me an A/C company. I told him I wasn't spry enough to climb up on buildings and suggested a tech school. Went back every year until 05. The building was almost done. When I returned home. I found out the estranged son in law had been sniffing around. God didn't want me to go back. Within a month, I had my own AC company and clients. To top it off, my daughter was pregnatized, and my grandson was born on my wife's birthday. HE really didn't want me back there.
