Looks like the West Bermuda buoy has been rocking a nice 8 foot 11 sec swell since morning. If my calculations are right , it should be buried under Thursday afternoons wind chop . Why do we always have bad wind on these days ? It will be my Birthday , so I'm wishing for improving winds .

Treasure Coast. Winds and seas will slowly subside early next
week.

No there is not. The forecast has been onshore winds in that time frame for days. The forecast has been surf with shitty winds/conditions and it has not budged for a week or more. Quit making shit up.

From surfline
For thursday 5/12/22

4-6ft+
Chest to 1ft overhead
4-6ft
Chest to overhead
Surfline Good size NE swell lingers but winds likely to remain problematic. Could see some improvement pending the track of low pressure though so worth watching

When is the last time you saw something like this happen?

What are the odds of this actually coming true?

NWS Melbourne:

Wednesday-Friday...The low pressure system off the VA/NC coast
becomes cutoff, heading southward Wed before retrograding SW on Thu
towards FL. NE winds will increase as the low approaches FL, leading
to hazardous beach and surf conditions. A daily 30-40% of showers
and thunderstorms returns to the forecast. Highs will be mid 80s
inland and low 80s along the coast.

While models continue to maintain good agreement on the development
and trajectory of this system, timing and location vary a bit with
the ECM bringing the center more towards Jacksonville, while the GFS
brings it the The Cape before turning northwestward, and the
Canadian kills it off before reaching The Bahamas. Impacts along the
east central FL coast will be highly dependent on the position of
the system as it reaches the SE coast. The further south the low
takes, the more coastal impacts such as beach erosion, rough surf,
and even coastal flooding, could be experienced.

We often see a token swell in May with tropical characteristics, however this apparently isn't the case for this system. The retrograde part reeks of tropical storm behavior though. So maybe we get a little pay back for the dismal March/April surf we've had to endure. If this comes to fruition for next Thursday ...say 6@12 with ~ west winds it will be nice to surf some legit walls. I think there was a decent swell in both May 20' and 21'.
I recall a huge May swell solid double overhead with offshores ...must of been like 10 years ago at least. Maybe this leads to an outlying LA NINA summer with some ground swell a la 1995.

Friday 5/13

4-5ft
Chest to head
3-4ft+
Waist to shoulder
Surfline :Low pressure suggested to shift inland to the north. NE/NNE swell eases and local winds may improve. This is a day to watch for a potential proper cleanup.

It was May 3 2013. I remember because it was the best day of my life. I remember Surfline's forecast for the day was 3-7 foot, poor to fair conditions with strong onshore winds all day. Woke up the next day to see winds 10-15 mph off shore and 10ft+ waves. Surfed for 8 hours and had the longest walk back I ever had. May 4 and May 5 were pretty amazing too but May 3 will probably never have a day line up like that again.

If this doesn't make shortboardable waves, I'm taking up a new sport because we are never getting swell again. The low is over open water, it's spinning and it's moving south...there has to be fun waves, right?

from florida today:
Hurricane season doesn't official begin until June 1. It ends on Nov. 30. Because of this trend, there has been increasing discussions among weather experts about moving the official start of hurricane season up to May 15.

The current May streak of named storms started in 2015 with Annie. The following year it happened twice with Alex and Bonnie.

Since then? Arlene (2017), Alberto (2018), Andrea (2019), Arthur and Bertha (2020) and Ana (2021).

The wind and current were working against me. Actually got swept by clean up set and pushed down a half mile before I decided I could not make back out and I was too far. That happened twice. And at the end too. Still, though, I got some bombs.

Friday, satellite, a weak 1-3 feet, glassy morning. Water felt good. Maybe better at low tide or on a longboard. Good luck!

The wind went onshore in Jupiter at 11:30. Waves went to shit. That may be it.

Surf was actually bigger Saturday at low tide than it was on Friday. 4-5 feet at Patrick and strong drift going North. Seems like a new swell from the East.

Had a blast with the crowd at north jetty. Five days in a row. Sunburnt, sore and thrilled.
