It looks like a tropical depression or some sort of Low pressure system forming East of Florida later on in the week.

Off to go study this. Early hurricane season?

Wednesday onward...Increasing shower and thunderstorm chances
through the end of the week, as moisture lifts back into the area
along a stalled boundary. Brisk easterly flow around 15-20 kts
continuing into the start of the weekend, as high pressure moves
offshore of the Mid Atlantic coast. Seas building to 4-5 ft
Wednesday will become hazardous through the end of the week

NHC talking and now has hit the local news media. My wife just said, "What a hurricane already". I had to tell her...uh...no...maybe a weak low. Funny how people see something in the media and all of a sudden it is going to happen. But, Cheers to some good surf coming... *knock on wood*

Special Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
240 PM EDT Thu May 14 2020

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Special Tropical Weather Outlook issued to discuss the potential
for tropical or subtropical development near the northwest Bahamas.

1. A trough of low pressure over the Straits of Florida is producing a
large area of cloudiness and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions
are expected to become conducive for development, and this system
is likely to become a tropical or subtropical storm by late Friday
or Saturday when it is located near the northwestern Bahamas. The
system is then forecast to move generally northeastward over the
western Atlantic early next week.

Regardless of development, the disturbance has the potential to
bring heavy rainfall to portions of the Florida Keys, southeast
Florida, and the Bahamas through Saturday. Tropical-storm-force wind
gusts are also possible in the Florida Keys, southeast Florida, and
the Bahamas during the next day or two. Hazardous marine conditions
are also expected along the Florida east coast and in the Bahamas
where Gale Warnings are in effect. See products from your local
weather office and High Seas Forecasts for more details. An Air
Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate
this system tomorrow, if necessary. The next Special Tropical
Weather Outlook on this system will be issued by 9 PM EDT today, or
earlier, if necessary.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...70 percent.

Looks like a coast hugger to me. Maybe something to ride, late Sunday or Monday. If I had to go to work I dont think I would be skipping work for this.

Plus, as mentioned in another thread, have to do alot of looking around to find a bottom that allows for a decent break. I dont know of one from SBI to NSB.

Right now it looks like its going to move up the coast toward the Carolinas. Then move more east and maybe south east. Some optimism for mid to late next week.

Hard to believe the local wind forecast for the next couple of days when a 13 second period is predicted. That shouldn't be legal around here. It is supposed to always be honking dead onshore whenever a swell rolls in. People going to be bitching about closeouts though like they always do when the period is >11 seconds.

Sure was nice and clean at secret nuclear power facility. Driving past Martin County Beaches with at least three cops in cars checking residency with no masks. Mobile command unit. Golf carts. So so so much effort. Seems like they didn't mind the crowd at all, just wanted the country club check at the front.

Long period means more people can make it out - SUPs, logs, kayaks, canoes, those butt surfing things, Caballitos de Totora - and less waves per person.

Add Memorial Day weekend (coming out of lockdown) to the mix and it's going to be a free for all...and I plan on joining the masses.

If I can talk Mrs. wrksux into it, we'll be trekking south for the weekend JB and 3rd.

It's was world class this morning in Jupiter. 6' to 8' with light offshores. What a wave.

Funny, you guys don't get crap for waves, but when the stars align, it's freaking on. From Edna with her sunflower covered shower cap swimming in sparkling flatness to mid sized Uluwatu and all within 12 hours.

Glad you caught it JB.

Extreme north tilt meant we weren't closed out even on the long period but there was cape blockage happening.

LOL Cole I got a good chuckle out of that visual. The Golden Girls swimming club daily floaty work out will not be held today due to high surf

I am sunburnt, my shoulders are toast and the wind is on it. I will take a nap today. Maybe dust off the fish and show off some snappy lip shots for Edna.

I am happy you guys are scoring. I am stuck in Virginia Beach, where we had 3 days of 20mph windchop and a few hours of clean waist high drops with no shoulder on a peak shared with a dozen longboarders. Ah, summer! Get it while you can.

GREG! I'm in the exact same situation as you! Stuck up here in VA Beach on a work assignment and trying to make sense out of the 1st Street Jetty schizophrenic line up. So far, I've been telling my boys back home in Sat Bch the same thing... perfect a-frame take offs into nothingness, with clueless longboarders sitting inside of me while I take off on my 5'11", not even attempting to get out of the way... so frustrating Ha Ha! Luckily, I get to go back for a week next week. We are truly lucky to have central florida as our local breaks. Feel bad for these VA Bch surfers.

One last kick at the can. Not sure how much was residual kick back swell from Arthur and how much was SE windswell but the Inlet was super fun for a 4 hour window this afternoon.
