    Brent Weldon is largely a water videographer, seems to be careful about safety, but um, yes, he's right under some of this stuff

    This explainer narrated in roughly the style of Bruce Brown explains some of the attraction. It does make for superlative bodyboarding, but high-end bodyboarding is an art of extreme waves (like that video above). The place has a high injury rate, scary number of broken necks, but it apparently isn't Newport Beach's worst spot for fatalities.
