Took me 6 months but I finally got my D800.
36.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor, Full HD 1080p video at 30/25/24p with stereo sound, ISO range of 100-6400.

This is the very first, and I mean "first" click of the camera. I'm frikkin' stoked!!

My daughters cat "stalking". This is about a 2/3 crop. Original RAW file is 35.6mb! Gonna need some new flash cards Batman.

PS will use as much RAM as you give it. For a bit more responsivness... Try using less RAM for PS, which will leave you with more available RAM for other things while you're working on photos. Go to edit>preferences> performance and adjust the slider down to around 15% of your available RAM. Try it and then play around with it a bit until you get just the right anount. Everybody thinks that the more you give it the more responsive it will be, I have found just the opposite is true. Please let the forum know what results you get....

I know that most of you guys know this, but I thought I would mention it for the newbies....This is an example of a classic polarizing filter effect and in the old days one would put a physical glass filter on the lens to get it. Notice how the foam is bright white, but the darkish sky is pushed back.
Now one just needs the software to apply almost all these different (polarizer, neutral density, star, colors etc...) filters to their image. Also it saves an awful amount of time in the field fumbling in your camera bag for a filter. So don't go out and buy a bunch of unnecessary filters (yet). It's fantastic to be able to carry just one lens, one camera and one filter (UV (top quality) to protect the lens) and still be able to get all the different effects later on in computer.

I took these shots last weekend at the Inlet (where else?) and went with the thought of testing out the new D600 at taking sunlight silhouettes (which I love to shoot, but the DX always let me down. The first thing that I noticed when I brought them up on the computer was the lack of solarization rings around the sun (good riddance), with a nice smooth graduation of tone from the sun outward. I used to have to smooth the sky out by hand in PS to get rid of these problems. The other thing is that the first two of these pix are pretty much right out of the camera with just a bit of lightening of the shadows in LR. If I had shot these in film the silhouettes would be black with absolutely no detail in either the sky or the shadows (couldn't have both in color).
