Guavas had been excellent hosts for Fruit Flies for a long long time. So, the only way to prevent infestation is to start bagging the fruit, and then keep on changing to bigger bags as the fruit gets bigger.
And then come the Squirrels, Possums and Racoons. The Coronels had been very successful in protecting their Guavas from the critters by hanging a sheet of Fabric Softener (the type commonly used in Clothes Drier when you do your laundry) next to the bagged fruits. Here are my photos of Guava (Psidium guajava) at the property of Cora & Jerry Coronel at Pinellas Park, Florida on 14th September, 2008; Fabric Softener hung next to bagged Guavas http://www.asitghosh.com/MISC/...va1200_coronel_sm1.jpg Guava cut in half to compare with 1 inch diameter coin http://www.asitghosh.com/MISC/...a1200_coronel2_sm1.jpg ========================================================================== |
