Kwai Muk (Artocarpus hypargyreus) had always been under the shadow of its well known and very famous cousin, the ever popular Jakfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus).
I do not know of any other fruit-bearing Kwai Muk tree in the US other than the one in Marie Selby Botanical Garden in Sarasota, Florida. Supposedly the reproductive genetics is extremely complex in a Kwai Muk. My 3-Gallon, 4-ft tall Kwai Muk tree was planted in the ground in August, 2005. Now at a height of 10-ft, I found a large number of small fruits this morning. Here’s a photo, taken today the 3rd of June, 2007. http://www.asitghosh.com/MISC/asitkmuksmall.jpg Asit http://www.asitghosh.com ====================================================== |

When fully ripe like the picture in my last post, it is sweet with a slight tartness.
