Anyone out there have luck growing Iris? I am thinking of trying some. There are some beautiful orange and blue flowered ones. Also thinking about trying some day lilies too. What do ya think????

There's a day lily society in Orlando, and they have lots of plants at the spring plant sale at Leu Garden.

Irises for Florida are a bit different from farther north. Fla DEP.

The natives are all wetlands plants, and Iris hexagona is by far the most widespread. I just planted a couple of them, after leaving them in containers too long. It's a beautiful blue-flowered plant that forms iris meadows.

Neomarica is worth trying for moist, shady places.

I'm not familiar with Louisiana iris, but IFAS publications indicate they thrive in Florida. I suspect these would make a wonderful Japanese garden.

I don't recall seeing irises at Morikami Japanese Garden in Palm Beach County.

Day lilies and amaryllis are pretty easy - blue flag iris are native plants, and should grow well in your area (particularly if you have a low lying area in your yard). Those are really the only varieties I've grown personally.

We posted at the same time . I forgot one - rain lilies are pretty good.

My rain lilies (from Searle Brothers' fall 2006 sale in SW Broward) have been flowering nicely. And they seem to be proliferating. They were an old-fashioned favorite in Florida, but disappeared from the Big Box stores. They're Zephyranthes.

The "Christmas" amaryllises are finishing up flowering. Great show.
