I was looking around on lawn types and this came up and was new to me. Anyone have experience with it as a lawn? It caught my attention because it is native, seems to thrive in my type of environment (mel bch), and fir weed control u can simply pour salt water on it (from what i read).

You must be thinking of seashore paspalum, Paspalum vaginatum, which is native to Florida.  I didn't see much from UF from a Google search, more from University of Georgia.  Bahia grass is also a Paspalum.
